Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Sweet Potato Fries

November 17, 2020 by Shelly

Homemade Cinnamon Sugar Sweet Potato Fries RecipeWe love homemade sweet potato fries and I make them for the family several times a month. The process of making your own French Fries is easy and they taste so much better than their store-bought counterparts. This particular recipe utilizes a blend of cinnamon and sugar as the topping. You can sprinkle on as little or as much as you like!

If you plan on making homemade French Fries often I recommend that you invest in a good French Fry Cutter. They’re affordable and easy-to-use. My wrists & hands can’t take a lot of pain & pressure at my old age…so I prefer using one. You’ll find many different ones out in the retail marketplace but I recommend getting one with a stainless steel blade.

Wash sweet potatoes under cold running water. Use a veggie brush to remove dirt and debris. You can remove the skin with a veggie peeler or paring knife if desired. I prefer the skin to be removed but that’s entirely up to you.

If you’re using a French Fry cutter follow the manufacturer’s instructions to make your fries. If you’re doing it by hand you’ll want to use a knife and cut them into your desired length and thickness. As your cutting them place them into a bowl of cool water until your done. Then drain away the water by dumping them into a colander and shake away the excess.

Place 1 tablespoon of olive oil into a bowl. Place fries into the bowl. Use a spoon to coat them with the olive oil. Place them onto a baking sheet. At your grocery store in the spice section you can buy a container of cinnamon sugar blend or make your own. You’ll want to sprinkle the cinnamon sugar on top of the fries, use a spatula to flip them over and sprinkle a little more on top.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place baking sheet into the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes depending on the thickness of your fries. Thin cut is usually around 10 minutes while thick cut can take 15-18 minutes. You’ll have to experiment with the baking time so keep an eye on them. Halfway through the baking process you’ll want to use a spatula to flip them over, this will ensure even browning and baking. Remove from oven and let them cool for an additional 2 minutes on the sheet before serving.

Additional Serving Tip: I will sometimes pour maple syrup over the top of the sweet potato fries right before serving. If I plan on using the maple syrup I will skip adding the cinnamon sugar on top as they get too sweet for my liking. However, depending on your sweet tooth you may want to add both.

I have bought the frozen sweet potato fries and they are just okay. This homemade recipe with the cinnamon sugar looks so much better and worth the time making them.

I am trying this recipe. I have sweet potatoes right now in the pantry. I usually bake them in the microwave. Thank you.

If I were going to make these I would invest in a french fry cutter. My hands are not strong enough for sweet potatoes.

I will be honest I will not cut the fries myself. Sweet potatoes are hard to cut. But I do love the ideal of adding the cinamon sugar on them. Frozen sweet potatoes here i come
