Back in September we were looking for something fun to do with the kids and decided to take a drive up to Lake Tobias Wildlife Park in Halifax. We try to get up there every year for a family outing. The Wildlife Park offers two different attractions. You can choose to do just one or both. Each has it’s own admission fee.
The Safari Tour usually is done in an open-air tour bus. Due to the China Virus (Covid-19) this year you drive through the Safari Tour in your own vehicle. It’s a nice tour where you drive through the park while comfortably sitting in your vehicle. You’ll see all kinds of animals that you typically will see out in the wilderness. Deer, Bison, Ostrich, Camels, Zebra, Buffalo, Alpacas, etc.
My children really enjoy the regular zoo exhibits and petting zoo. That’s where you get out and walk. You can buy treats and food at the park that you can feed to the animals as you go along. You’ll see various snakes, turtles, pygmy goats, pigs, donkeys, various birds, monkeys, peacocks, tigers, giraffes, etc. My daughter is really into sloths this year so that was her favorite animal to see.
When visiting Lake Tobias Wildlife Park you want to plan ahead. I recommend dressing for the weather that day, wear comfortable walking shoes, bring along sunscreen and bug spray. You’ll be outdoors for the zoo exhibits and petting zoo.
They have 4 on-site places where you can pick up a bite to eat. You’ll find the standard fare like hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken tenders, french fries, hot & cold sandwiches, subs, ice cream, candy and beverages. They do offer outdoor picnic pavilions if you want to bring along your own picnic style lunch.
You’ll want to allow at least 2 1/2 hours in your schedule when visiting. That will allow you enough time to take the Safari Drive-Thru Tour and enough time to visit the Zoo Exhibits & Petting Zoo areas. After you’re done with your visit you can shop at the gift store for souvenirs.
Lake Tobias Wildlife Park in Halifax, Pennsylvania is a really nice place to visit. We enjoy taking the kids up there every year. Covid-19 precautions are in place. They recommend that you wear a mask or face covering when out on foot throughout the park. You’ll want to frequently wash your hands and use hand sanitizers. Please practice social distancing while you’re there.
