To make this snowman I used supplies that I already had on hand. You can do a little bit of machine sewing or sew the pieces together by hand. You can whip up several of these cute guys in just one afternoon.

Primitive Country Snowman Shelf Sitter

Primitive Country Snowman Shelf Sitter

Cotton Quilt Batting
Acrylic Fiberfill Stuffing
8″ by 1/2″ Piece of Cotton Homespun (scarf)
Black Puffy Paint
Off-White Thread, Needle, Scissors
Wooden Toothpick
Orange Acrylic Craft Paint and Paint Brush
All-Purpose Craft Glue, Quick Drying
Tea Stain (see notes below)
Acrylic Faux Snow Textured Paint

Pattern: I made my own by just free-handing a snowman shape onto a piece of paper. Mine stands about 6″ tall by 4 1/2″ wide at his widest point. He’s not to look perfect so free-handing is great for this project. Cut out your pattern.

Tea-Staining: Place 2-3 tea bags in 2 cups of boiling water. Let the water get nice and dark. Let cool. Pour into a spray bottle. Once you cut out your pieces from the cotton batting you’ll want to spritz them with the tea stained water. Place pieces on a wire rack to dry or use a hair dryer to dry them more quickly. You can make him as tea-stained as you would like which gives him that primitive aged look.

Use your pattern to make and cut out 2 snowman shapes from the cotton quilt batting. Place the 2 pieces together and sew around all of the curvy edges, leaving the bottom open. Lightly stuff him with the acrylic fiberfill. Use a sewing needle to close the opening.

Use orange acrylic craft paint to paint a wooden toothpick. Once dry, snap it in half. You can use each half to make his nose. Use scissors to trim it to the size that you need.

To make his buttons and eyes I used black puffy paint. I dotted on three buttons and two eyes. Let dry. Glue the orange wooden toothpick onto his face to represent his nose. Let dry. Tie a piece of cotton homespun around his neck for the scarf.

Dip a palette knife (small one) or old paint brush into the white acrylic faux snow craft paint. Dot on globs of the paint on his body in 2-3 places to look like fresh fallen snow. Let dry. That’s it, you’re done!
