Kid’s Crafts: Hand Painted Jellyfish Design on Seashells

Kid's Crafts: Hand Painted Jellyfish Design on SeashellsPainting simple designs on seashells is so much fun! Your designs can be animals, wordage, flowers, fruits & veggies, cars, etc. Whatever your heart desires! Matter of fact, you’ll find over 100+ seashell craft projects on the TwoClassyChics blog. We love this crafting medium because it doesn’t cost a fortune and you can use your painted shells to decorate the inside and outside of your home.

Before you get started with today’s project you need to wash and thoroughly dry all of your shells. When collecting them you ONLY want to collect the unoccupied shells. Please don’t harm any animals!!! If you find one that is still occupied please put it back where you found it. This beautiful shell was painted by my 11 year old granddaughter who did a wonderful job!

Kid’s Crafts: Hand Painted Jellyfish Design on Seashells

Large Clam Seashells
Acrylic Craft Paint
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Acrylic Paint Pens Fine or Medium-Tip
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer

Base coat the shell with 2 coats of acrylic craft paint. She used an icy blue color with a metallic finish. If you’re using a light color you may need to apply 3 coats…to get the coverage that you need. Let each coat of paint dry for 30 minutes before applying the next coat.

For the design she used a combination of acrylic craft paint and paint pens. The jellyfish body was done using acrylic craft paint which resembles a “half circle” shape. She used a light pink paint pen to make the legs and outlined them with a red colored paint pen.

Using a black paint pen she outlined the body of the jellyfish and make a small “u-shape” for the mouth. She used the white paint pen to make 2 small “oval shaped” eyes. Once dry she used the black paint pen to dot on the pupils. Let the shell dry for several hours or until the paint is no longer tacky.

Take them outside and spray each side with 1-2 coats of the clear acrylic spray sealer. She like using the glossy finish which gives them a nice shine. This will protect the painted finish from chipping or fading. They will last for years!
