My 11 year old daughter started expressing an interest in drawing and art last year. Since that time we’ve been supplying her with how-to books and art supplies. She’s very artistic and creative. I really like the 10-Step Drawing Series from Walter Foster Publishing as they’re great for older children and adults. Just about any age group can use these how-to books.
The author, Mary Woodin does a nice job of breaking everything down in an easy-to-understand and follow format. You can draw every design that she’s provided in the book in 10-steps or less. Each step is illustrated and you just follow the instructions to make & complete the illustrated design. I like how the author shows you the completed design in color to give you inspiration on how you can color it in and add some additional life to your sketch.
Princess has been working on a few of them the past couple of weeks. She loves marine life (like her Nanny) and has been practicing drawing seals, dolphins and a starfish. I just ordered a few mini art canvases for her and hoping they arrive soon. She wants to sketch onto the art canvas and then use water paints to color in her sketch. Sounds like fun to me.
