Hand-Painted Flip-Flops Design River Rocks

My 10 1/2 year old granddaughter enjoys various arts and crafts. During our weekend visit we headed into my craft room to paint a few river rocks. She’s a big flip-flop wearer during the warmer months of the year and commented that 2 of the rocks were shaped like her favorite pair. Ding…Ding…Ding…the flip-flop design was born!

She sat down and got busy with her new design and I have to admit…they turned out cute! You can make them using regular acrylic craft paints & a paint brush or you can use acrylic paint pens aka markers which are great for adding the finer details. You can do a simple pair or get all fancy with your design.

Hand-Painted Flip-Flops Design River Rocks

2 Oval-Shaped River Rocks
Acrylic Craft Paint or Paint Pen Markers
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels (if using paint)
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish

She painted each river rock with 2 coats of “flesh” colored acrylic paint, allowing 20-30 minutes between each coat of paint. The paint needs to be thoroughly dry before adding on your details.

Using the paint marker pens she made the straps in a black color and left them dry. She used pink and lavender colored paint makers to add the polka dots to the straps. A medium pink paint marker to add the toe nail polish. Let it all dry for about an hour.

Take them outside and spray each side with 1-2 coats of the clear acrylic spray sealer. This will help to protect the painted finish. You can then display them indoors or out!
