Upcycle Old Greeting Cards into New To and From Gift Tags
How many of you save the greeting cards that you receive? I do! I store all of them in a plastic box in my craft room. I like to use them for various craft projects throughout the year. You can use those old greeting cards to make bookmarks, new greeting cards, refrigerator magnets, postcards, to decorate your scrapbook pages, etc.

One of my favorite ways to upcycle Christmas greeting cards is to turn them into new to and from gift tags. It’s really easy to do!!! You can make all kinds of different sized and shaped tags by cutting out images on those cards. You can do the same thing with note cards, birthday cards, baby shower cards, etc. Make your own tags and use them the next time you need to add a tag to a gift box or bag.
For the designs shown in my photograph today I used Christmas cards and ribbon from our holiday packages. I cut out the images and shapes that worked best with that image. I used my hole punch to punch a hole and then looped a piece of recycled ribbon through the hole. This allows me to add the tags to gift bags. You don’t need to do that step if you’re just going to tape them onto a wrapped package.
You can jazz up your tags with leftover items in your scrap craft stash. I will often glue on little buttons, charms, rhinestones, silk flowers, etc. I love using glitter glue and will add sprinkles of that too. The white Merry Christmas tag is one that I added on 2 little red star-shaped rhinestones. The 2 green tags have white glitter glue polka dots that remind me of twinkling snow. On the Ho-Ho-Ho Santa tag I used clear glitter glue and filled in his eye brows to add a little glitz and glam. Camera doesn’t show the pretty glitter but its there!
The three brown gift tags were made by recycling a shirt box. I cut out tag shapes and then used my rubber stamps to add images. I used some clear glitter glue to add some sparkle to the pine trees. Once they were done drying I used my hole punch to add the hole. Use some leftover or recycled ribbon to add your hanging loop. That’s it, you’re done!
On some of the tags you can hand write the gift recipient’s name on the front. On other tags you’ll have to write the TO and From portion on the other side of the tag. I rarely do a FROM since I hand most people their gift directly. If you’re a stickler for TO and FROM you can find little rubber stamps made specifically for that purpose.
