Tour of Shelly’s Outdoor Coastal Gardening Yard Art

Coastal Beach Front Door Porch DecorEvery season I like to give readers a sneak peek at my outdoor gardening yard art that I display as the seasons change. It always takes me 2 to 2 1/2 weeks to change out my seasonal decor and get everything changed over. Luckily for me…we have an outdoor gardening shed that I store all of my yard art in. Rubbermaid totes that are labeled according to the season. When I take things down I always give them a proper cleaning before storing them away.

This year I put 2 large urns on each side of our front door and planted a nice mix of easy-to-grow flowers in each one. I like the color combination that I used this year and may repeated it again next year. On clearance I found 2 wooden shore birds for $2.00 each. I sprayed them with 3 coats of a clear acrylic sealer so that I could display them outdoors. There’s one in each garden planter. The door mat is one of my favorites as it’s in my coastal colors and features a beach-themed wreath accented with seashells.

Coastal Beach Seashells Garden Flag

To go along with that door mat I found the matching coastal beach garden flag which I have displayed in our front yard alongside the sidewalk leading up to our front door. I purchased the coastal doormat and garden flag from Amazon for a great price! I love how they match and both coordinate nicely with my other items. They have a matching house flag and magnetic mailbox wrap that you can buy to go along with them.

Gardening Metal Wash Basin Flower Planter

From our local flea market I purchased a large metal wash basin tub. I brought it home and filled it up with new potting soil. We then planted a mixture of flowers inside it. My husband bought the junk yard dog from an artisan who lives in our area. The dog is made out of all kinds of rusted metal junk. That guy is really talented! To add a little light to the wash basin planter I placed an Owl Solar Stake Light inside. It gives off the perfect little glow during the night.

Coastal Beach Seahorse Garden Flag

On one side of our house we have a bush and a very small garden plot. I wanted to add something simple to that area and decided to put in another coastal beach themed garden flag. I really love the color and seahorses are one of my favorites!!! I purchased it from Amazon and they have matching house flags, mailbox wraps and doormats to go along with it.

Glass Owl Solar Stake Light

There’s a small flower garden plot on the other side of the house. In that plot I have a few tropical hosta plants that get quite large in size. Right now they’re flowering and look really pretty. I love that they’re a no-fuss and no-mess plant! I’m currently on the hunt for a Blue Angel Hosta Plant but they’re hard to find around here. Sigh. Anyway…check out my gorgeous glass owl solar stake light that adds a little bit of light to the area at night. He’s gorgeous and a lot larger than my other solar lights. He’s one of my favorites for sure!

Pink Flamingo Glass Solar Stake Light

Since I love coastal decor…no outdoor gardening area would be complete without a nice pink flamingo solar stake light! Next year I’m going to add 2 or 3 more of them in varying heights. Let’s face it…flamingos are typically found in flocks and my girl is lonely and looking for a date (or two)!!! LOL

Fern Hanging Basket

My front porch is all decked out too. I have my rocking chair and a side table on there that’s shaped like a tropical fish. I then have 5 planters of varying heights in the one corner which is holding a few of my houseplants. I like to take them outside during the summertime and bring them back inside come fall. I have 2 hanging baskets with ferns in each one. Come fall they will go back into the bathrooms. Ferns grow well for some reason in a bathroom hung near a window.

Gardening Coastal Flowers Porch Decor

That’s just a sneak peek at a small portion of my outdoor yard art for this summer gardening season. I love decorating for summer since its my favorite season of the year. I’ve got mermaid statues, a bird bath filled with flowers, a seahorse statue, a solar lighthouse, tons of painted and unpainted seashells & conch shells and all kinds of things!!! I decorate the front, back and side yards!

Very nice this year. I have to admit loving that ‘junkyard dog’ a whole lot. I realize he isn’t a coastal thing but that is so fun! Since we are moving, my garden is in limbo this year. We still have the old house and my wild flowers for the pollinators is in full force I so hop someone else appreciates all the years it took. The new yard is a complete mess!

  3. Your yard is an outstanding work of art! The reason the ferns grow so well in bathrooms is that they like the humidity.

Years ago when I still have a yard to work in I also had a bird bath filled with flowers. The bird bath had big hole in after winter, which was perfect to drain. I love all the metal pieces that you have you have a great yard.

  5. Your yard is so pretty. I love your flags and your flowers look great and so cheery and pretty. Thanks for sharing these great pictures they were fun to look at.
