The Best Campfire Food and Treats for Your Next Camping Trip

The Best Campfire Food and Treats for Your Next Camping TripDid you know that around 40.5 million Americans go camping each year? That’s quite the crowd. And with that many people camping, we can only imagine how many snacks they must be packing to bring along!

Sharing food around the campfire is a quintessential part of camping. If you’re planning your next trip, you might be wondering which recipes to try out.

We’ve got you covered. Check out our list below for some of the best creative campfire food!

1. Fondue

Fondue is an easy fix for an impromptu camping trip. You can make a quick fondue in a skillet by adding cheese into a broth and cornstarch mixture. Stir until the cheese is fully melted then dig in with veggies and crackers.

Chocolate fondue is the perfect campfire treat for campers on a budget. All you need to do is melt chocolate in a saucepan over the fire. Bring some marshmallows and fruit to dip in the fondue, and you have a simple but decadent campfire dessert.

2. Unconventional Campfire Food: Jalapeno Poppers

If you’re looking to impress your fellow campers, try your hand at whipping up jalapeno poppers! While you can typically buy these at the store, they’re far tastier if you make them yourself.

This jalapeno poppers recipe recommends wrapping them in bacon and stuffing them with cream cheese. If you’re not a cream cheese fan, you can substitute shredded cheese instead.

These are a savory snack that you can prep ahead of time and even freeze 1-3 days before camping. All you need to cook them over the fire is a grill basket.

3. Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon rolls are a classic on their own, but they’re even more fun on a camping trip! One unique way of cooking these rich treats is by wrapping around them around a skewer and cooking them much like you would with a hot dog or marshmallow.

They also cook up beautifully in a skillet. If you want to make them extra savory, you can roll bacon into them before lining them up in the pan—just be sure that the bacon is fully cooked before you wrap it into the cinnamon roll.

4. A S’more Alternative: Banana Boats

A banana boat campfire treat is an excellent alternative to the traditional s’more recipe!

To craft the perfect banana boat, you’ll have to cut a banana lengthwise. Make sure the peel is still on! Then you stuff the banana full with your favorite s’more toppings. Caramel is a fun addition to the typical graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate.

After you’ve filled the banana boat, wrap it up in aluminum foil. Roast it over your campfire then open it to reveal gooey banana goodness!

5. Quesadillas

If you’re looking for an easy campfire food, quesadillas are the perfect fix. Prep your quesadilla fillings beforehand, especially if you want anything that requires additional cooking, like shredded chicken or bacon.

To get started, lay a tortilla out on a piece of foil. On one half of the tortilla, layer your fix-ins. Be generous with the cheese—that’s what will hold together all the other goodies.

Fold the empty side of the tortilla over to cover the filling. Wrap the aluminum foil to cover the quesadilla. Finally, cook it over your campfire on a grate to get a perfectly crispy and gooey quesadilla!

Although I am not a camper my younger son enjoys it. I do not think that he has ever tried banana boats and they sound like a delicious treat.
