Home Improvement Project: Before and After Photos of New Sunroom

Home Improvement Project: Before and After Photos of New SunroomTen years ago we purchased an older home from my great aunt and uncle (both are deceased). The home was built in the early 1960’s and was needed to be remodeled, updated and modernized. They had a limited income, so these type’s of projects fell behind.

One major project that needed to be done was our small sunroom. It had never EVER been updated and still had the original paint job, nasty paneling on the wall, old windows that were cracked & foggy and all sorts of other issues like mold underneath the nasty carpeting. It was a mess and couldn’t be saved at all.

Hubby tore down the entire room to the cement slab that it stood on. He ripped down the roof/ceiling, the walls, yanked out the carpeting, etc. I mean everything to the cement slab as you can see in my one photo. We then pressure washed the cement slab (twice) and left it thoroughly dry. He used a cement waterproof sealer on top and left that dry for several days.

The rebuilding then begun! Up went new studs to form the walls, a new roof with new shingles, walls, windows, flooring, a new back door, etc. It took him 2 months working on it every weekend to get that portion completed. Another 2 weekends to hang-up the new drywall and then paint the walls a pretty buttercream color. We did hire an expert joiner to come in one afternoon and do some wood trim for us.

For the new flooring we elected for a weathered-gray color flooring that looks like wood but is really tile strips. That took him another weekend to finish. He got all of the baseboards painted, the trim around the door and windows painted, etc. and my dream sunroom was coming together nicely.

This room gets a lot of light. It sits off of our kitchen and has a door that leads into the backyard and is the closest room to our swimming pool. It serves as a storage room, sunroom and pool room. We like to change our clothes in that room when getting in/out of the pool. I have our upright freezer in that room, a comfortable lounge chair, etc.

I enjoy gardening and had hubby add a wooden shelf that runs the length of one wall so that I could put my houseplants on it and use it when germinating plants from seeds come veggie gardening time. My plants get at least 8 hours of sunlight every day which is great! I can now do a little bit of flower, veggie and herb gardening year-round. Fun!

We just ordered some new comfy furniture for the room and once that comes in we’ll be moving things around and getting everything into place. Once we do that I’ll get a few wide-shot photos of the new sunroom to show you. I’m really happy with how it turned out.

It must be great to have something this big off your to do list! It sounds like it is a room for everthing which help you life out. It takes time and money to get your home they way you want it. My brother and sister in law have been working on their home for over 30 years and it is almost the way they want it.
