Beautiful Street Art in Downtown Philadelphia

Beautiful Street Art in Downtown PhiladelphiaDowntown Philadelphia is loaded with outdoor street art. You’ll find thousands of different outdoor wall murals, statues, memorials and other fun things. There are companies that offer bus tours and/or walking tours to see it. For the most part, these guided tours are affordable and we highly recommend that you check them out when visiting the city.

We love art and love to learn about local artists in our area and home state. The majority of outdoor wall murals in downtown Philly are indeed painted by locals. These murals dress up the buildings and add some much needed color to the downtown area. You’ll find small ones, medium ones and some that take up the entire side of a building.

When viewing I recommend that you take photographs of the murals that you see. Then when you return home you can get online and look them up. Often times you can find out who painted them, the meaning behind them and if the artist has additional ones in the area. We like to document the ones that we find.

In addition to the outdoor wall murals we enjoy looking at statues and historical memorials. You can find a ton of those in downtown Philly too! As a historical city, there is always something new to see and Philadelphia has a large art scene with some well-known artists who live and work in the city.

Sylvester Stallone Rocky Footprints in Philadelphia

Have you ever seen any of the famous ROCKY movies? If you’re a fan you can go to where they shot Sylvester Stallone (Rocky) running up all of those infamous steps! You can actually stand in his footprints which is really cool. It was one of my husband’s favorite highlights from our last day trip down to the city.

I This street art makes downtown Philadelphia even more interesting. It is great to combine the historic sites with the newer art.

I like street art, too. In my hometown in KY, there was some controversy recently when the mayor paid several thousand dollars for some murals around town. A few city council members decided it was ‘graffiti’ lol. They feared it would start to look like ‘big city vandals’ had hit, lolol. I’m not sure they understand what graffiti is.
