After a Cruise Ship Accident: 5 Types of Damages You Can Claim

July 22, 2020 by Sam H.

After a Cruise Ship Accident: 5 Types of Damages You Can ClaimA cruise might be your idea of the perfect vacation. But, for many people, cruise ship accidents can be life-changing – and not in a good way. Cruise ships are in the business of making money, so if you have an accident that results in an injury, it is important that you take time to talk to a lawyer.

Cruise lines will do what they can to protect themselves, which most likely will not help you if you are injured or have a legal claim. Rather than suffer after the accident, you can look to consult with an Insurance Recovery and Maritime Attorney with an exceptional reputation. Experienced legal professionals, understand the complexities of maritime law and can help you navigate your claim. Whether dealing with medical expenses, lost wages, or emotional distress, having a skilled attorney by your side ensures that your rights are protected.

These are five types of damages that you can claim after a cruise ship accident.

1. Collisions

Cruise ships occasionally collide with other maritime vessels. Collisions can have repercussions, especially when people fall or crash into the walls. If you have been on a cruise ship that has crashed and you were injured, you should talk to an attorney who works with maritime injuries. If you have been injured, you should not wait to see an attorney. Your ticket to get on the cruise ships shares your rights, and many have a very short statute of limitations – often as short as three months you disembarked the ship.

2. Injuries in Rough Seas

While cruise ships have no control over the seas and the weather, they need to keep the passengers safe and free of injuries. If the seas are rough and passengers are injured, the cruise ships could be liable. But, the only way to find out is to contact a legal expert for accident injury cases and find out what your rights are in this situation.

3. Food Poisoning

You cannot bring your own food upon a cruise ship, so you have no choice but to eat what is on the ship. If you get food poisoning, you should be sure to document the situation and make an appointment to see an attorney. If you do decide to sue, you might have to have your lawyer file the suit in the venue where the ship docked, so it could be Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or another city with a major port or where the cruise line has an office.

4. Slips and Falls

You should not have situations where you could slip and fall on a cruise ship. Slippery floors should be marked. It is also important that areas around the swimming pools and other wet areas are marked if they are slippery. Your attorney can help you file a suit if you feel your slip and fall was due to negligence on behalf of the cruise ship.

5. Assaults

Cruise ship assaults happen, but being in international waters makes it difficult to figure out how to manage the situation. So, it is vital that you talk to your attorney as soon as you can so you can work together to decide how to claim damages and how to press charges. An attorney with maritime law experience can help you with the situation.

This was very informative to read and I will share this one with anyone who is thinking about taking a cruise. Personally, you could not pay me enough money to get on one of these. I have heard such horror stores about cruises to include abductions, people falling overboard and people partying loudly and out of control all night with no law enforcement on board.
