Should You Craft Your Own Greeting Cards?

June 18, 2020 by Carol

Should You Craft Your Own Greeting CardsFor those interested in arts and crafts, greetings cards are high up on the list of quick and straightforward creations that go a long way to making a recipient feel valued and special. If you haven’t tried your hand at crafting your own greetings cards, there are some considerations to take into account before setting aside the time and resources to make something that could so easily be bought in a shop or online.

Time and Money

It is the time and money balance that must be found when considering any form of craftwork. A pack of greetings cards can be bought for next to nothing and are usually perfectly acceptable, if a bit dull. Doing this would save you time, work and money, but gives you a product nowhere near as heartfelt or precious as an item you have put together yourself.

Before getting into arts and crafts, consider if you think the outcome will have been worth it.

Affection

There is something uniquely special and affectionate about an item made with your own hands, tools and resources. A handwritten letter takes more time and effort than a typed one but provides the recipient with a sensory quality which cannot be replicated. Running your fingers over the indents and pressure points of pencil or ink, knowing they have been made by somebody who you care about – or who cares about you – is a precious feeling.

This sensation goes for handcrafted goods like greetings cards, too. It might take time and effort, but the outcome will not disappoint.

Supplies

Think about the supplies you will need before getting into crafts. Discounts on stationary are available through vouchers such as Office Depot Coupons and will help you save money on the tools you need for writing to others. Find high-quality supplies and, if possible, get more than you need in case your first creation doesn’t quite turn out the way you’d like it.

Business Opportunities

If you turn out to be a dab hand at crafts, or if you’re already fully invested in arts and crafts as a hobby, then business opportunities might present themselves. While everybody would like to be able to send the ones, they love a personalized, handcrafted greetings card, not everybody has the ability. If you are somebody who does, you could take orders and requests or simply sell bundles of your creations.

Should your business venture take off, you will be working for yourself, being creative and spreading affection through your products. On the other hand, if you do not have the time or the financial stability to take the risk of beginning your own business like this, you could still do them sporadically for fairs or charitable causes. Many shop-bought greetings cards are in aid of charities or fundraisers, and if there is a local cause close to your heart, then you could put your crafting abilities to good use and raise money for them.

Crafting greetings cards should not be rushed, and your end product should look good and feel of excellent quality. Getting your supplies right, setting aside enough time to perfect them and making them personal to yourself – or others if you are selling them – are critical elements of handcrafting.

It seems that it would be a lot of fun to craft one’s own greeting cards. I think that it would be very profitable too.
