Exploring Old Small Town Train Stations

We love to travel and we prefer traveling by car. Why you might ask? Because there is so much more to see! While road trips take longer to get from point A to point B…they’re a lot more fun! Our beautiful country from coast to coast has a lot to see.

Before we hit the road we like to map out our route. We enjoy passing through small towns and checking out a few things while we’re there. One thing we like to explore is old small town train and railroad stations. A lot of them that were built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s have been torn down or abandoned. Some have been restored and turned into new businesses.

The Old Train Station Railroad in Marysville Pennsylvania

The photograph in our post is of the old train station in Marysville, Pennsylvania. It sits right along the Susquehanna River on Routes 11/15. The architecture of this old railroad station is amazing!!! We learned that several years ago a local business purchased the old building, remodeled it and turned it into a new business. The new owners sell outdoor items and equipment. You can buy boats, canoes, kayaks, etc. from them.

On the day that we visited it we had stormy weather and it was pouring down rain. I would of loved to have spent some time photograph this old beauty from various angles but sadly…the weather wasn’t cooperating. I think with this one photo you can see the beauty. I bet that old train station houses a lot of great memories for the travelers who once used it.

Right behind the building is the Susquehanna River which is one of the largest rivers in central Pennsylvania and it was a hub for transporting goods and people from one town to another. Only makes sense to build a train station along the river banks.

So…the next time you’re heading out on a road trip do a little planning before you go. Look for some old historic buildings to visit and places to see while passing through some of those small towns on your route. It’s always fun to explore!
