Pets rely on their owners to provide a safe and clean environment for them to live in. Their bedding, toys, cages, crates, litter boxes and food bowls need to be cleaned regularly. You need to keep things cleaned to help your pet remain healthy.
Over the years I’ve learned how to keep pet food bowls clean and wanted to share a few tips with you today. My tips pertain to doggy and kitty feeding dishes.
1. After they have eaten gather up the dish and immediately rinse it out with running water. Towel or air dry. This is for pet parents who feed their animals more than once a day.
2. Once your pet has finished eating for the day its important to wash the food and water bowels with hot, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly to remove any soapy residue. Air or towel dry.
3. Some feeding bowls are dishwasher safe. Every time you run a load of dishes toss their dishes in too!
4. Every 2 weeks I like to use my hand-held steam cleaner to give the bowls a good overall cleaning. My steamer is made to clean and disinfect by using just hot water/steam. No chemicals or soap needed.
5. For stubborn stuck-on debris you can use a Mr. Clean Eraser. I find that they’re great for cleaning pet bowls and won’t scratch up the surface like a scouring pad or cleaning sponge. This is really important if you use stainless steel pet bowls! An old toothbrush can come in handy too.
6. If your stainless steel bowls are looking a little dingy you can make a paste using baking soda and water. Scrub your entire dish with it and rinse clean. It can help to restore the shine.

I have never used a steam cleaner for pet bowls. That is a new idea that I want to try . Thanks.
A lot of things here I never thought about doing. Going to share this family and friend because this is a good list
My cats are messy eaters so I wash their bowls every night in the dishwasher. They have several bowls for water, dry food and wet food. They are extremely spoiled.
i don’t have any pets right now but I will tell my sister about it. Thank you for the information.
I do put my cat’s bowls in the dishwasher each day. I have a few bowls so I change them often. I love Mr. Clean Eraser and use it often also.
I don’t have a steam cleaner but these are great tips. I have to wash my cats’ bowls in hot water and soap daily because they drop food in the water bowl and it gets slimey.
It is so strange that this morning I cleaned my cat’s dishes and then I signed on and read your post about cleaning pet dishes. I think I will try to clean them next time with the hand-held steam cleaner that is a great idea never thought of it before.
