I’m a coffee drinker and can’t start my day without a cup or two. I’m picky about the coffee that I drink. I like a bold flavor without a bitter after-taste. I don’t need flavor added into it. I enjoy a little big of sugar and cream.

Himalayan Coffee Importers offers some of the best ground coffee that I’ve had in years. The company is based in Golden, Colorado but gets their coffee from Plantec Coffee Estate in Kathmandu, Nepal where its grown and roasted. Here’s some information about the company and coffee.
WHY TRY COFFEE FROM THE HIMALAYAS? Because the world’s highest mountain range is an ideal place to grow bold, deep-flavor coffees. At higher altitudes, the cooler temperatures and lower oxygen significantly slow the growth of coffee plants, allowing them to dedicate more energy and sugar to its coffee cherries and yield richer and denser flavors. This magical process from the mists of Mount Everest results in sweeter and more flavorful coffee cherries and fast-draining soils mean the flavor isn’t watered down.
WHY ARE THEY UNIQUE? They promote Nepal’s coffee industry and help farmers gain the recognition they deserve for growing exceptional coffee in one of the least developed countries in the world. They want their farmers and their communities to thrive and benefit from a coffee marketplace unlike any other in the world. All of their product is produced using organic and sustainable practices. The company donates a percentage of their sales towards charitable and environmental causes like snow leopard conservation and cleaning up Mt. Everest.
Jalpa Gold is a medium roast ground 100% Himalayan Coffee grown with Himalayan snow-melt water, hand-picked and hand-sorted. It’s certified USDA Organic. Each bag is marked with a batch date and an expiration date so that you know that its fresh. It’s named after the Hindu Goddess Jalpa Ma, the sister of Goddess Manakamana, known to grant wishes and ensure successful ventures. This medium roast coffee is the sweetest of their coffee roasts and is well-balanced, full bodied with an intense aroma and vibrant flavors of jasmine, smooth caramel, and pears.
Kathmandu Roasterie is a light-roast ground 100% Himalayan Coffee grown with Himalayan snow-melt water, hand-picked and hand-sorted. It’s certified USDA Organic. Each bag is marked with a batch date and an expiration date so that you know that its fresh. The Kathmandu Roasterie is a place where perfection happens…at their estate where artisan-roasts its freshly hulled coffee greens in small batches. This is a “light bodied” coffee with floral tones and the flavors of sweet citrus and light chocolate.
How to prepare the perfect cup: Use 2 Tbsp. roasted coffee for every 6 oz. of filtered water heated to 200 degrees F.
I’ve been using both coffees for the past 12 days and really love them. Yes, really! I really like drinking the Jalpa Gold variety in the morning when I need a heavier flavored coffee to get my day going. Later in the day when I need something lighter I’ve been enjoying the Kathmandu Roasterie. Both have a great flavor and no bitter after-taste. If you like a more “sweet” and heavier bodied coffee you’ll want the Jalpa Gold. If you’re more of a light coffee drinker then select the Kathmandu Roasterie. Both are equally delicious.

I think my family coffee drinkers would go for the medium or espresso blends, like the Johnny Ghurka or the Mt Everest blends. They sound pretty powerful.
