A Family Visit to the AACA Museum in Hershey

April 22, 2020 by Shelly

AACA Museum in Hershey PennsylvaniaA few months ago we took our family down to the AACA Museum in Hershey Pennsylvania for some fun! The Antique Automobile Club of America operates the museum and wow…is it large! It takes up 3 complete floors and there are a ton of things for you to see and do while visiting.

They’re open 7 days a week and closed on major holidays. You’ll find free parking and they’re handicap accessible for those with disabilities. There is an on-site gift shop that you can visit to buy souvenirs and gifts. We found that they were moderately priced and had some very unique things.

Inside the museum you’ll see all kinds of antique cars, trucks, vans, buses, motorcycles, etc. The earliest was from the late 1880’s with some of the best models on display from the early 1920’s. They have your classics, muscle cars, sports cars, etc. Something for everyone to enjoy.

Our grandchildren loved the Train Room which is located on the bottom floor. They have numerous trains set up with villages, train depots, amusement park, drive-in movie theater, covered bridges etc. What makes this exhibit so much fun is that its totally interactive!  There are at least 30 different buttons that kids can push to get the various trains & trolley’s to go around the tracks. Some of the buttons operate the amusement park rides like the ferris wheel and bumper cars.

Like most men…Sam was really into seeing the muscle cars and sport’s cars from the 1960’s through early 1980’s. He said that they brought back a lot of memories from his teenage years. I call them muscle cars but he keeps correcting me and calls them HOT RODS. One of his favorite movies is SPEED and he really enjoyed climbing aboard a old bus that was exactly like the one featured in the movie.

One of my favorite things was their replica diner from the 50’s and 60’s. You could walk inside and sit at the counter. It was fun checking out the old menu, seeing all of the old classic diner food that would be offered to patrons, etc. I also enjoyed checking out their exhibit of old hood ornaments. Remember those? Those used to be a HOT thing back in the day!

This museum has a lot of things for you to see and do. We spent a total of 2 hours there and could totally spend another 2 hours walking around checking out all of the exhibits. The family enjoyed sitting in some of the old cars and buses that were on display. We did a lot of walking and had a wonderful time. A great way to spend the afternoon with the family.

You’ll find the AACA Museum located on Rt. 39 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It’s about a 5-10 minute drive from the Hersheypark Complex (the amusement park and Giant Center). So…if you’re planning a visit to Hersheypark you’ll want to plan a visit to the AACA Museum too!

This looks like a fun museum to visit. I love the pictures of the old cars thanks for sharing those. Those cars must have been really something to drive especially the one in the first picture.
