Last weekend was a pretty stressful weekend in our house. Why? Well, we discovered that a mouse had moved into our newly remodeled sun room. I don’t like rodents…not as a pets and certainly not in the wild. They gross me out!
I had walked out into the sun room last weekend to get something out of our upright freezer and had noticed that the room was a mess! When we adopted Romeo (our cat) back in December I had moved the majority of our houseplants out there to keep him safe. During the winter we don’t use the room very much but come summertime we hang in that room as it overlooks our swimming pool.
Two days early I was out in that room to get 2 rolls of paper towels. Hubby was out there to put a bulk-size bag of cat food out there for storage. The room was fine and everything was in its place. Until….36 hours later.
Upon entry I immediately saw a big mess in the room. Half of my houseplants were chewed on and several others were almost dead or ripped out of their pots. There was potting soil all over my plant shelf and strewn across the floor. I take great pride in having a green thumb and well…a lot of my plants were destroyed.
As I walked further in the room I discovered dry cat food all over the floor and black-looking pellets (mouse poo). There was a ripped up magazine & a book too! What the heck was going on? Romeo never goes out there (he’s not allowed in that room) so I knew it wasn’t my little boy.
Hubby comes running in there (heard me screaming) and looks everything over. He then tells me…I think we have a visitor or two. I said…what? What kind of visitor? He said…mice. What heck? No!!!!
He starts moving some of the furniture around and finally gets to the new upright freezer. He pushes it a little bit out from the wall and guess what? Yeah…a freaking ugly-ass mouse runs out from under it. Ewww. Gross me out!!! I ran out of there. Yes, I’m afraid of them!

After setting traps for 2 days he finally got the bugger and he’s been evicted. EVICTED with a capital E. He’s gone. This household has no vacancies! I’m happy to report that my room is neat and clean again!
Are you afraid of rats and mice? I find them totally disgusting!
Although I am not afraid of mice I would not want them in my home. I am glad that you were able to catch it and return your sun room to normal.
So Glad you were able to get rid of your pest…Mice can be really destructive & very unhealthy.. I am always afraid that one will get in when I open and shut my back door to leave my Dogs out & in!! .No I do not like mice to live in my home..Lol…They spook me because the are so fast moving…
One of my friends had a rat that got in through a crawl space and ran across their living room while they were watching TV. You can imagine the screaming as she jumped on the coffee table. They had to hire an exterminator to get things taken care of.
I’m terrified of mice, even dead ones! They are disgusting! We live on a farm and have them, thankfully we have had any in our house!
Oh, we had a few about four years ago. They were field mice who scattered from a nearby field after it was mowed. Needless to say, after they were gone, we tracked down where they could’ve gotten in and sealed those places! I hate mice.
I am with you…. they are gross and nasty. We have had one here in 6 years…. that was one too many. To me they are just disease ridden varmints… go away!
I had a mice problem a couple of years ago. I bought some killer traps and killed them all. (not sorry). Haven’t had any since then.
I hate mice and if I even saw a rat I would get a flame thrower! Looks like they really did a number on your sun room glad to hear that they are gone. I feel a little stupid, I didn’t know that they would chew on house plants guess they will eat anything. We had a problem several years ago on our front porch it is screened in but they were trying to build a nest in the porch wall. I adopted two indoor/outdoor cats and those girls kick ass! I mean, nothing comes around our house at all ever they patrol the area and kill everything that comes close. I have another cat she is strictly indoors I think if she saw a mouse she would just play with it or maybe run lol.
I had no idea they ate houseplants either. Lesson learned. It’s been a week and we only saw one and killed one. We haven’t seen any new signs of activity so hopefully this is over with. We gave the room a good cleaning and disinfected everything. I lost about 7 plants in total and the mouse ripped up one cushion on a chair. We don’t let Romeo out in the sun room due to all of my plants and not knowing which plants he’s safe to be around. I think if he did spend time out there that he would of gotten that damn mouse lickety split.
Lets just say that if I saw one in my home you would hear me at your house. For years I lived in a trailer and had two cats, no mice. But my neighbors had them all the time.
