For my review, Sunny Bay sent me a package containing 24 air-activated disposable heat pads and 4 reusable belts for positioning the pads where you need pain relief. Truthfully, though, this is really my husband’s review, since he’s the one with chronic back pain and who has been enjoying the soothing heat of these Sunny Bay heat pads. Each of the reusable belts has pockets for holding two pads, but my husband found that using one pad at a time was sufficient for his needs, since his back pain is localized to one side.

Activating the heat pads is simple; just open a pad’s plastic overwrap, and within several minutes, it begins to get warm. Each pad is clearly marked with a “skin side” notation, letting you know which way to face the pad when you’re putting on the belt. Once the pad is properly inserted into the belt, you position the pad over the painful area and secure the belt using the attached Velcro. Over the next 20 minutes or so, the heat pad continues to gain warmth, then maintains that warm temperature for hours, providing safe and gentle pain relief. The pads are quite thin, so I can’t even tell when my husband is wearing one under his clothes. His pain is in his lower back, so he wears the belt around his waist, but it can be worn elsewhere if needed (shoulder, leg, etc.).

The heat pads are very long-lasting, retaining heat for up to 12 hours. Since they’re air-activated, you can remove one and place it in an air-tight plastic bag if you want to take it off for a while and use it again later. This is helpful if you want to use one late in the day, since you can seal it up overnight and the same pad will still be warm the next morning (they’re not recommended for use while sleeping).

In addition to these disposable heat pads worn with a belt, Sunny Bay also makes adhesive disposable heat pads that adhere directly to your skin or your clothing.
