Strolling Down the Wildwood Boardwalk at Night
We love visiting Wildwood in New Jersey and consider it our second home. Every year we have the pleasure of visiting the island several times for weekend getaways and week-long vacations. We’ve been visiting the island for 20 years and look forward to retiring there within the next few years.
I often share photos of things you can see and do while vacationing in Cape May County here on the blog, but I don’t think I’ve ever shared with you photos of the Wildwood Boardwalk at night.
Unlike some other seaside towns…we feel totally safe up on the boards during the night. You’ll find the majority of retail stores, boutiques, pizza parlors, restaurants, arcades and attractions open for business until midnight. It’s a busy place (most of the time) but family-friendly too!
When we’re up on the boards we like to just stroll and people watch. Yes, I do shopping too…but we really just enjoy being out around people and having some fun. My husband likes stopping into the arcades and playing those crane games to win stuffed animals for the grandchildren. They just squeal with delight every time he gets a new one for their collection. When we go into an arcade…I’m all about the skeeball! Yes, a classic!
Over the years I’ve made note of my favorite shops, candy stores, restaurants, mini golf courses, which pier has the best amusement rides, etc. That’s what happens when you go to the same place over and over again. You develop your favorites.
Every Friday night during late June through the month of August they shoot off fireworks and you can stand on the boardwalk and see them. The show lasts for around 20 minutes with the larger shows produced on the summer holidays. Oh yeah, they shoot off fireworks on New Year’s Eve too.
Anyway, I wanted to share with you a few photos that we took while up on the Wildwood Boardwalk back in October. It was late at night and often times we had certain areas of the boards all to ourselves. It was great!
