How many of you have kids who attend school? I have one in preschool and one in elementary school. One thing that I’ve noticed this past year is the over-load of homework that is given to our children. I understand that our children needs to be educated but I also understand that they need to be kids too. All year long my daughter has been overloaded almost every weeknight with 3-4 hours of homework. Every third weekend she has been overloaded with some type of school project that takes at least 4 hours to complete. I find all of this to be way too much on our kids. They’re unhappy to be bogged down like this!

As a parent who works a FT and a PT job I have very little time to sit around and help with homework. My husband also works a FT and PT job. Do these schools realize that most households have 2 parents that work at least FT jobs? The homework has gotten extremely out of control at my daughter’s school. Your thoughts?

I think homework is a fine balancing act. Having worked in the schools, most times you do not have time to cover everything and it creates homework :/ Of course teachers have to deal wih that too and mostly on their own time. I would also speak to other parents and see if it is a problem for all. Perhaps there just is not enough time in the day for anyone involved.

I understand about the homework and I agree. They take PE out of school and then overload them with after school work. Then they complain when they are over weight. When are they supposed to play and be active?

I remember my childhood and I had a lot of homework. However, I always was able to go outside and play too. You should speak to the other parents and see if they agree with you, then you can s[eak to the teacher as a group of concerned parents.
