9 Easy DIY Home Decorating Tips for Your Living Room

9 Easy DIY Home Decorating Tips for Your Living Room

9 Easy DIY Home Decorating Tips for Your Living RoomIs your living room feeling a little less lively these days? Then, it may be time for a makeover. While redecorating an entire room can sound like an expensive undertaking, it doesn’t have to be — especially if you take the DIY route!

Ready to give your living room a DIY facelift, but aren’t sure where to start? We’ve got you covered!
Here are nine stunning DIY living room decor ideas that will help you breathe new life into your home.

1. Pallet Coffee Table

Whether you’re looking to create a warm farmhouse look or chic industrial decor, a pallet coffee table could be the perfect addition.

You can buy brand new pallets online. But, if you’re looking to save some cash and capture a vintage, distressed look, you may want to start your hunt at your local hardware store.

To create a pallet coffee table, you’ll need at least two wooden pallets, sandpaper, caster wheels, a few long screws, and paint or stain of your choice.

Sand the pallets down until smooth, then stack the pallets and screw them together. Apply your paint or stain and wait for it to dry before attaching the casters to the bottom. Then, voila! You have a beautiful and unique coffee table.

2. Windowpane Collage

Your living room is an excellent place to display all your favorite family photos. But why put every picture in individual boring frames, when you can create a beautiful collage with the help of an old window pane.

You can find loose windowpanes at antique stores, estate sales, and even thrift stores.

Once you find your windowpane, all that’s left to do is pick your favorite photos. Then decide how you want to display them inside the pane and hang it up for your whole family to enjoy.

3. DIY Lampshades

Swapping out your lampshades can immediately change the look of a room because it affects the lighting in the room as decor.

While you can buy a wireframe for a lampshade and start from scratch, there is a slightly faster and more enjoyable way.

Start by buying an unadorned lampshade in white, beige, or some other color of your choosing. Then what comes next is entirely up to you.

You can use stencils to spraypaint designs on your lampshade, or create a unique texture with ribbon or paper.

4. Blanket Ladder

Looking for a fun conversation starter that doubles as a practical storage piece? Then the blanket ladder is for you!

Making a blanket ladder doesn’t just give you a place to store all your favorite throw blankets. It can also make for a unique design piece that can make any room feel warm and welcoming.

5. Unique Floating Shelves

Floating shelves are an excellent way to display all your favorite tchotchkes while adding depth, or even height, to a room.

The other fun thing about floating shelves is you can make them our of practically any flat surface. So, find some interesting books, vintage shutters, natural wood planks, or other flat surfaces and mount them up on the wall.

6. The Statement Wall

Who says you have to repaint an entire room to give it a fresh new look?

As a homeowner, it may seem like the average cost of everything related to home maintenance, be it insurance or new paint, can be astronomical.

Fortunately, you can save yourself a little money by forgoing a full room repaint, for a fun and unique statement wall.

While you can make a statement wall by painting one wall in your living room a unique color, why stop there? You can also use stencils to create eye-catching geometric patterns or even add a little texture.

7. Build a Bar Cart

Bar carts are enjoying a bit of a renaissance in the interior design world and for a good reason. When it comes to creating the ultimate space for entertaining, a rolling cart of libations is a must-have.

All you need to create your very own one-of-a-kind bar cart is a table or small shelving unit, and a couple of caster wheels to pop on the bottom.

Once you have the cart together, all that’s left is to fill up your new bar cart with your favorite spirits!

8. Book End Table

Are you looking for a fun way to flaunt your literary prowess in your living room? All you need is a tabletop and a very tall stack of books.

The trick to making a table out of books is to make sure the books are hardcovers, and in good enough condition that they lay flat when stacked.

If you don’t have enough encyclopedia-sized texts around your house, don’t panic. You can find plenty of large, faux-leather bound books at most thrift stores.

If you’re looking to create something a little larger than an end table, you can also use books as legs for a much larger coffee table.

That said, if you plan on having more than one leg, you must measure carefully to make sure everything comes out even. Or risk your coffee sliding onto the floor whenever you try to use it.

9. Mounted Knickknacks

Do you collect anything? Why not flaunt your fun finds by mounting them on the wall in your living room?
Whether it’s vinal records or vintage postcards, you can add a lot of personal flair to any room by creating a gallery of your things across a wall.

BBQueen: How to Become the Ultimate Grill Girl

BBQueen: How to Become the Ultimate Grill Girl

How to Become the Ultimate Grill GirlNothing says “summertime” better than a few burgers on the grill. But isn’t grilling a man’s job? Not anymore! Ladies, it’s time to throw on your apron and grab the tongs.

A new BBQueen’s in town and her name is YOU!

Check out our complete guide to becoming the ultimate grill girl this summer. Your mad skills won’t just impress your neighbors at the next block party, but your savvy with the sauce will have your man more than happy to turn his BBQ crown over to you.

Grill Girl: 101

Becoming the ultimate grill girl is less intimidating than you might think. No need to fear the coals or lighter fluid, we’ve got you covered with these basic steps for getting your grill on.

1. Understand Charcoal vs. Gas

If you’re well-informed, there’s no need to fear the grill. One of the basic things to understand for good grilling is the difference charcoal will make vs. gas.

Charcoal grills require some serious prep time. If you own a charcoal grill, you’re in for some delicious food, but just be ready to build your fire and get your coals ready at least 30 minutes before you throw any food on the grill.

Charcoal grilling requires a bit more in the way of maintaining the fire and cooking temperature, cleaning up afterward, and disposing of ashes. Still, charcoal grills are often less expensive and give your food the delicious campfire taste your guests will love.

Gas grills are low maintenance. They tend to cost more than charcoal but they preheat in about 15 minutes with the push of a button. You’re also more likely to get an even grill than cooking over live coals with charcoal grills.

The differences between cooking with charcoal and gas are many, but for the sake of giving you all the BBQ queen tips, knowing the basic differences should help you choose which kind of grill will work best for you.

When in doubt, choose a gas and charcoal grill combo and get the best of both worlds.

2. Seasoning and Oiling

Any true grill girl understands the importance of proper seasoning. Sure, a plain flab of hamburger meat doesn’t taste bad. But, add a few spices or some scrumptious marinade to those chicken thighs and your grilling game scores double points.

Oiling your grill and the tips of your tongs is also important to prevent the meat from burning. It will also help with grip when it comes time to flip the meat over.

3. Grab the Right Tools

For the best, (and safest), grilling, there are a few essential tools every BBQueen needs:

? Oven mitts
? A grilling apron
? Tongs
? Metal grilling spatula
? A meat thermometer
? Skewers

Having the basics like a meat thermometer will prevent undercooking. No one likes realizing the chicken needed longer by biting into raw meat.

Getting Started

Becoming a true grill girl is as simple as getting to know your grill, practicing a few flips, and looking up some delicious recipes. Just remember, grilling isn’t much different than cooking in your kitchen…

You just look sexier doing it.
