BBQueen: How to Become the Ultimate Grill Girl

March 11, 2020 by Jenelle

How to Become the Ultimate Grill GirlNothing says “summertime” better than a few burgers on the grill. But isn’t grilling a man’s job? Not anymore! Ladies, it’s time to throw on your apron and grab the tongs.

A new BBQueen’s in town and her name is YOU!

Check out our complete guide to becoming the ultimate grill girl this summer. Your mad skills won’t just impress your neighbors at the next block party, but your savvy with the sauce will have your man more than happy to turn his BBQ crown over to you.

Grill Girl: 101

Becoming the ultimate grill girl is less intimidating than you might think. No need to fear the coals or lighter fluid, we’ve got you covered with these basic steps for getting your grill on.

1. Understand Charcoal vs. Gas

If you’re well-informed, there’s no need to fear the grill. One of the basic things to understand for good grilling is the difference charcoal will make vs. gas.

Charcoal grills require some serious prep time. If you own a charcoal grill, you’re in for some delicious food, but just be ready to build your fire and get your coals ready at least 30 minutes before you throw any food on the grill.

Charcoal grilling requires a bit more in the way of maintaining the fire and cooking temperature, cleaning up afterward, and disposing of ashes. Still, charcoal grills are often less expensive and give your food the delicious campfire taste your guests will love.

Gas grills are low maintenance. They tend to cost more than charcoal but they preheat in about 15 minutes with the push of a button. You’re also more likely to get an even grill than cooking over live coals with charcoal grills.

The differences between cooking with charcoal and gas are many, but for the sake of giving you all the BBQ queen tips, knowing the basic differences should help you choose which kind of grill will work best for you.

When in doubt, choose a gas and charcoal grill combo and get the best of both worlds.

2. Seasoning and Oiling

Any true grill girl understands the importance of proper seasoning. Sure, a plain flab of hamburger meat doesn’t taste bad. But, add a few spices or some scrumptious marinade to those chicken thighs and your grilling game scores double points.

Oiling your grill and the tips of your tongs is also important to prevent the meat from burning. It will also help with grip when it comes time to flip the meat over.

3. Grab the Right Tools

For the best, (and safest), grilling, there are a few essential tools every BBQueen needs:

? Oven mitts
? A grilling apron
? Tongs
? Metal grilling spatula
? A meat thermometer
? Skewers

Having the basics like a meat thermometer will prevent undercooking. No one likes realizing the chicken needed longer by biting into raw meat.

Getting Started

Becoming a true grill girl is as simple as getting to know your grill, practicing a few flips, and looking up some delicious recipes. Just remember, grilling isn’t much different than cooking in your kitchen…

You just look sexier doing it.

I am looking forward to some better weather and grill season. Marinades do make a difference and I agree with using a meat thermometer. I have had some unfortunate events especially with chicken that looks cooked but is still raw inside.

My best friend is a Grill Queen. When I want to grill anything I go to her house.
