5 Hotel Secrets to Know Before Your Vacation

March 26, 2020 by Sam H.

5 Hotel Secrets to Know Before Your VacationAround the world, there are 700,000 hotels for you to choose from.

Are you about to book a hotel room for a vacation or weekend getaway? It pays to learn about five hotel secrets that can save you money and time.

1. Don’t Pay for the Minibar

When you check into your hotel room, make sure that you don’t pay for the minibar. Most people don’t use anything in the minibar because of how ridiculous the prices are.

If you argue with the hotel concierge enough, they may even remove the items from your bill.

Whether or not you used the items in the minibar or not, most hotel staff will remove the items because it could’ve been a keystroke error, a problem with restocking, double stocking, or any other kinds of accidents that could’ve led to them charging you.

2. They Speed Clean the Rooms

Hotels do clean their rooms, but they normally clean them pretty quickly.

A standard check-out time requires guests to be out of the hotel by 11 a.m. However, check-ins for new guests are normally in the middle of the afternoon.

That means that the housekeepers only have a small window to clean a huge amount of rooms. They could take as little as 15 minutes to clean a room before a new guest comes in.

3. When is the Best Time to Call

If you have a special request or want an upgrade for your room, you should know when to call.

Don’t call anywhere between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The front desk is probably overwhelmed with guests right now, and they’ll be less patient to handle your special request.

4. Don’t Book on Discount Sites

If you want to book this hotel, make sure you don’t do it on a discount site.

When you book on a discount site, you’re likely to get a discount room. Hotels have no incentive to give the discount sites the best room, especially when you are paying a cheaper price.

If you want a nicer room and experience, make sure you book directly through the hotel website.

5. They Don’t Wash the Bedspread

Lastly, you should know that most hotels don’t wash the bedspread that often. They may wash or change it maybe four times a year.

Even if it has a duvet and a removable cover, you still probably aren’t safe. It normally isn’t washed between guests, so if you want some peace of mind, you can sleep without it.

The regular sheets, however, should be freshly cleaned.

I have learned to always go through the hotel site for booking when possible but didn’t think about the timing of the call. Makes sense that it would be better to call when the staff is not as busy.

I enjoyed reading this post and I learned a few things thank you. I will now never book a hotel room on a discount site and I will try never to call between the hours of 9 am and 1 pm. I take the bedspread off the bed first thing and I also wipe everything down with disinfectant wipes. I also always always read customer reviews before I stay at any hotel. I have not stayed at some pretty nice hotels after reading that prior customers got bed bugs while they were there – ewww scary!
