Back in the day, plastic surgery was almost a national pastime. Everyone was doing it. From celebrities to housewives, “having something done” was the norm. These days, however, invasive cosmetic surgery has gone by way of the 8-track. Instead, people from all walks of life are opting for less invasive, less traumatizing procedures to improve the way they look and feel.
So, if you’re not happy with those frown lines or you wish your teeth were just a shade or two brighter, think about using more affordable methods than plastic surgery. here are five of the more common spruce-up options available today:
1. Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are made of a dental resin that is placed over your existing teeth. They can correct a host of dental issues including discolorations, misshapen teeth, and other tooth defects.
There are two types of composite veneers: direct and indirect. The same type of material is used in both types, but as the name suggests, direct composite veneers are applied directly to your teeth while indirect veneers are created outside the mouth and applied at a second appointment using a layer of adhesive. Your dentist can help you decide which option is best for your needs.
2. Teeth Whitening
Whitening your teeth is the easiest and fastest way to improve your looks and confidence without spending a ton of money to do so. Over-the-counter teeth whiteners work well to lighten teeth a shade or two, but for a deep-down whitening that lasts much longer, a professional teeth whitening is recommended.
Professional teeth whitening can cost anywhere from $300-$700 and may take more than one visit to achieve the level of whiteness you desire.
3. Laser Hair Removal
Feeling a little like Chewbacca lately? Laser hair removal may be the answer. This affordable procedure gets rid of unwanted hair from the face and body in as few as a single session. While it works best on dark, thick, coarse hair, it does little to remove light blonde or white hair.
Additionally, it may take several sessions to remove all the hair completely, but it’s still cheaper and easier than any cosmetic surgery around.
4. Dermal Filler Injections
Dermal filler injections remove fine lines, wrinkles, and creases. A thick, gelatinous substance is injected into the skin to plump and smooth areas of concern. The effect lasts anywhere from six to nine months before the procedure needs to be done again.
You can expect to pay $430 up to $1,600 per treatment, depending on the type of filler used. Compared to more than $2,500 for cheek implants, this procedure is a bargain – not to mention, much less invasive.
5. Botulinum Toxin
Also known as Botox, this common facial procedure involves injecting a paralyzing agent under the skin to remove wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. Effects last 3-4 months and the cost runs about $370 a session. For perspective, a forehead lift cost on average about $3,370.
Not long ago, plastic surgery was in. From rich celebrities to everyday housewives, everyone was having something nipped or tucked. These days, however, plastic surgery isn’t as popular as it once was. Instead, people of all walks of life are opting for less invasive, more affordable options to improve their appearance.
Whether you’re unhappy with your smile or you would like to have fewer wrinkles staring back at you in the mirror, the procedures listed above can help you look and feel better without breaking the bank.
