1. Tuscany

If you’ve seen the movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”, you know that Tuscany is a place of good wine, romance, gorgeous landscape and views, and abundant sunshine. Tuscany is located in the Italian countryside in northern Italy, far away from busy cities like Rome and Milan.

While you’re in Tuscany taking in the beautiful views and indulging in delicious food, enjoy Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and other wines made from the Sangiovese grape.

2. Napa and Sonoma

Considered New World wine regions, the Napa and Sonoma wine regions in California are not only the homes of delicious wines but have become vacation destinations. While Napa is the more well-known and popular California wine destination, don’t overlook Sonoma as well.

Both are within a quick drive from San Francisco and allow you to experience wines from chardonnay to cabernet sauvignon. You could spend days and not hit all of the wineries in these regions.

Check out Napa for a few days and then head to Sonoma for a more relaxed, less crowded wine-tasting experience. The California wine regions are always gorgeous, but the most picturesque time of year is the fall.

3. Greece

An Old World wine region, the best Greek wines include Sauvignon Blanc and Albariño. Although winemaking in Greece has been around for thousands of years, it didn’t catch on like Italian winemaking did.

More recently, though, Greek wine has been having a moment. Couple educational trips to Greece with a trip to one of the amazing wine regions of Naousa, Nemea, Mantinia, Samos, or Santorini.

4. South America

The South American wine industry is booming and Argentina and Chile are some of the top producers of wine in the world. Argentina is most widely known for its Malbec wines, but don’t miss the Cabernets from Mendoza or their popular white wine, Torrontes.

One of the newer wine regions in Argentina, Patagonia, is a great source of Pinot Noir. After you enjoy the wines of Argentina, head west to Chile, where the cool climate produces Cabernets similar to those of Bordeaux, France, and Carmenere, a red that is similar to Cabernet Franc.
