Everyone needs a place to escape to sometimes. Somewhere that is all their own to find a bit of reprieve from the stresses of daily life. If you are lucky enough to have a bit of green space on your property, you might have not yet realized the hidden potential it holds to become a true backyard oasis that can serve as your very own escape. Thankfully, it doesn’t take much to bring that potential to life and create a calming outdoor space.
Here are three ways that you can completely transform your backyard and make it your very own calming oasis.
1. Clean it Up
The first step to creating your backyard oasis is to make sure that you start with a clean, blank canvas. If there are any trees or plants that are beyond saving, you’ll want to remove them first. For bigger trees that have deep roots, you might need to enlist the help of a professional tree removal service.
Next, look to the grass. If there is already grass in your yard, cut back any overgrown areas. If you don’t have grass yet, you can either have sod installed or seed put down. Either option will allow you to choose the type of grass that will grow in your yard, and there might be a fair few options to select from depending on the climate in which you live.
Lastly, you’ll want to take care of any pests that might be living in your yard. A pest control company can help you identify and exterminate any bugs or critters that might be lurking about. Nothing will ruin your relaxation time quite like some buzzing, biting bugs, so be sure to have this taken care of right away.
2. Find a Water Feature
Every relaxing oasis needs a soothing water feature as a focal point. You can go with a small pond or find a cool fountain that can also serve as a birdbath that brings some cute wildlife into the mix as well. If you love wildlife, installing pond fountains will also help to attract everything from frogs to kingfishers. They’ll hear the water and make their way to your garden, giving you the chance to see rare spectacles and beautiful displays of nature. You can sit out on your patio and unwind to the sound of softly rushing water as bright blue dragonflies zoom past.
This can end up being one of the more expensive aspects of the whole project, so be sure to shop around and compare the costs of water features before you purchase. In the end, this will be a very unique part of your backyard oasis.
3. Personalize With Small Details
Once you have the overall design of your backyard pretty much completed, it’s time to bring in the details. Find some weather-resistant throw pillows for your outdoor furniture to add a pop of your favorite color into the mix. Go for an outdoor rug to make the entire setup a little cozier and really make it your own. You can have some fun with the furniture as well if you decide to go with pieces that are a bit funkier than your traditional picnic table.
I do like the idea of a water feature. These are all good ideas and now that we are staying at home I might try to implement some of them.
I’m not big on water features. I do like to see a real garden, growing things like tomatoes or lettuce or even watermelon. And I like fruit trees, too. I do like a nice, big patio.
Lots of great suggestion and ideals. Having my own garden is the one thing I really miss about moving to a senior apartment. When I moved I so hated to leave all my beautiful plants. So I got on craigs list and offered FREE plants. So many people came to dig up my plants I even gave the yard furniture away. It was so much fun.
I like the water feature. That makes it homey. Thank you for the ideas.
I enjoyed reading this post and it gave me a lot to think about since I am home til who knows when. I would love to put a water feature in our back yard. The sound of running water is so calming and we have a ton of birds who would just love it.
