A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to review some new arts and crafts books that featured Polymer clay projects. You can check out our review on the Clay Play! Whimsical Projects Book and our review on the Clay Play! Jewelry Book right here on the TwoClassyChics blog.

We were new to crafting with Polymer clay and once we got started…we loved it! If you’re looking to try your hand at this arts and crafts medium, I would like to suggest that you pick up a few of the affordable kits that are available through Amazon. There are many to choose from at various price points.
To make the projects we invested in the Polymer Clay 24 Colors Oven-Bake Kit for Kids which includes:
24 Different Polymer Clay Colors
3 Plastic Modeling Tools
1 Instructional Sheet
The instructional sheet includes instructions to make 5 different items: Santa Claus, Green Frog, Rainbow w/Clouds, Teddy Bear and a Reindeer. The kit is for children ages 8 and up. The clay is pliable and non-toxic.
On the package they give you basic instructions on how to get started and how to use their Polymer clay. After you make your project you’ll place the finished item into the oven and bake at 275 degrees for about 30 minutes. This will harden it up nicely. Do not use a microwave oven!
This is a great beginners kit…especially for children. There are 24 colors which are great to use all on their own or mix 2 colors together to make a new color. I found them to be easily blendable and really easy to mold & sculpt. A really nice kit for the money!!!
The Princess and I started off with the smaller Polymer Clay Kit (shown above) and once we fell in-love with this crafting medium…I went back and purchased the larger kit, so that we would have more color options.
I had checked out two of our local craft stores and they offered kits at a much higher price. In addition, you could buy one color at a time at those stores and let me tell you, that really ADDS UP big time at the register. In my honest opinion, I found it more affordable to just buy the kits!!!

I can see why children would enjoy working with this polymer clay. I shall have to wait a few years for my grandchildren to use it.
I have not used/played with clay in years! But I want to try all kind of crafts with my great niece (3) because she enjoys learning. I have saw somethings she made with playdough so this clay would be fun
I love the Polymer Clay Kits. We used to get them all the time. It was so much fun. Thank you for reminding me.
I’ve worked with polymer clay before and it’s easy to work with. You can make lots of fun things with it.
