I love arts and crafts of all kinds. I will admit though, I’m a better crafter than artist. One of my resolutions this year is to teach myself to paint. I’m not looking to become a professional artist. I just want to learn some basic decorative painting skills that I can apply to my various craft projects that I make for our home.

Brushstrokes: Acrylic – Effortless Painting with Minimal Tools and Materials by author Angela Moulton is a brand new book release from Walter Foster Publishing. ISBN: 9781633228207. This book was designed for beginners…so if that’s you…the book is perfect!
With Brushstrokes: Acrylic, you’ll learn to relax, have fun, and create gorgeous paintings in less time than you think! By using bold colorful strokes strategically, beginning artists will build confidence and more experienced painters will find a way to loosen up their established style. In just a few hours, you’ll find you can make bright modern paintings you’ll be proud to display.
Inside this book you’ll learn:
* Easy acrylic painting techniques for the absolute beginner, using minimal tools and materials.
* Quick, deliberate brushstrokes with few steps; a perfect choice for beginning artists ready to create step-by-step acrylic artwork on the spot.
* An inexpensive way to get started with acrylic paint; each of the artist’s simple, step-by-step paintings can be completed in 15 minutes or less.
In the front of the book you’ll find the Getting Started section which talks about all of the tools and supplies that you’ll need. I really learned a lot about how to choose my paint colors and the Painting Techniques section was the most informative. Once you get through those sections you can then select a step-by-step project to try.
Abstract Painting
Limited Palette

Silhouette Owls
Two Bluebirds
Scattered Flowers

Cat Portrait
Bowl of Lemons
Stack of Bowls
Red Poppies
I really like that the artist has broken down each painting project in easy-to-follow steps. When I say easy…I mean EASY! I really think that any beginner can learn from this book!!! I learned a lot from this book including the anatomy of a paint brush and all of the proper names for it.
Our local art supply store went out of business 7 weeks ago so I ordered a bunch of painting supplies and acrylic paints online. Waiting for my goodies to be delivered so that I can sit down and try out a few of the included painting projects. I’m excited to get started and I’ll update my post in a few weeks to show you want I made.
