If you’re an avid surfer and you’re looking for a new place to set down your board, then you have to consider Sri Lanka at the top of your list. More and more people are discovering everything this wonderful country has to offer, especially for surfers.
But don’t take our word for it; here are five great reasons why surfers are falling in love with this beautiful country.
Variety in the Waves
After you’ve booked your sanetraveller, you’ll come to discover that the beaches of Sri Lanka offer a wide variety of waves for you to surf on. It’s a great place for both the beginning and intermediate surfers who want to test their skills. The sand-bottomed beaches at Hikkaduwa and Weligama are perfect for amateurs who want to get more experience handling different kinds of waves, while the reefs at Midigama offer more of a challenge for more experienced surfers.
The Food is Wonderful
Sri Lankan food is very well seasoned, pretty healthy, and very affordable. There is always an abundance of fruit salads and the lean towards fish instead of other sources of meat definitely makes this a healthy diet to try out while you’re there.
They also have excellent coffee and tea, giving you a great way to start your day. As for the rest of your day, you’ll usually have a difficult choice between freshly cooked seafood or a wonderful array of curries that will leave you feeling satisfied throughout the rest of your day.
Great Weather
Because Sri Lanka is in the Southern hemisphere, their winter is like the summer months in the North. That means that you can go surfing during December and January when your friends are family is still bundling up against the snow. This gives you the chance to perfect your surfing skills throughout the year instead of only waiting until it’s warm out.
The Rich History of the Country
The history of Sri Lanka is several hundreds of thousands of years old, so there are a lot of historic sites for you to visit during your downtime from surfing. For example, there are thousands of Buddhist temples, the main religion of the country, for you to visit, or you can take a guided tour through the rainforests to see the rich wildlife this country has to offer. You may even spot a wild elephant or water buffalo.
It’s a Perfect Trip for Everyone
Even for those family members who don’t enjoy surfing, they can find something to do in Sri Lanka that sparks their interests. They can mill around on the beach soaking up the sun, venturing into town to do some local shopping, or engaging in a meditation retreat away from the crowds. Sri Lanka has something to offer for everyone.
If surfing is a passionate interest of yours, then you should definitely consider adding it to your list of tourist destinations so that you can get a taste of the great waves it has to offer.
