Valentine’s Day Food, Crafts and Activities for Kids

Fun Valentine's Day Activities for KidsValentine’s Day is on February 14th and kids enjoy participating in the unofficial holiday just like the grown-ups. There’s a lot of different things you can do with the kids for Valentine’s Day and here are a few of our personal favorites.

Arts and Craft Projects for Kids

1. Painted Seashells – Give the kids a few medium to larger sized seashells and let them paint on them with acrylic paints or permanent markers. Check out our previous blog post for some fun ideas.

2. Handmade Greeting Cards – Pick up cardstock, scrapbooking paper, scissors, Valentine’s Day stickers, markers, a stamp pad & rubber stamps, glue sticks, etc. from your local craft store. Let children make their own greeting cards this year.

3. Keepsake Card Box – 4 years ago we shared an easy project here on the blog where kids can make their own greeting card keepsake box. You can find that post HERE.

4. Window and Door Decorations – Give kids construction paper, scissors and a glue stick. They can cut out hearts in different colors, glue them together and make their own window and door decorations. Grab our easy-to-follow directions on how to make them HERE.

5. Decoupage Glass Vase – Pick up a glass vase at your local Dollar Tree store, a few packs of white, pink and red tissue paper, Decoupage Glue and a foam brush. Children can easily make a beautiful vase for mom, grandma or their teacher. Grab the easy instructions HERE.

Food and Beverages

1. Decorated Cupcakes – Bake a batch of cupcakes and frost them with buttercream or vanilla frosting. Let the kids decorate them with red, pink and lavender colored sugars and sprinkles.

2. Chocolate Dipped Fruits – You can easily melt chocolate in your microwave and dip fresh strawberries, apple wedges, pineapple chunks and banana slices in it. Once the fruit has been dipped lay them on a non-stick silicone baking mat to cool. Grab our chocolate dipped strawberries instructions HERE. They’re delicious!

3. Romantic Family Meal – Let the kids help you in the kitchen to prepare a romantic meal for the entire family to enjoy. Set the table with a beautiful table cloth, your nice dinnerware, a table centerpiece, etc. If they’re too young to help you prepare the meal…let them help set and clear the table.

4. Window and Door Decorations – If they’re a bit older, you could take a look at these quilt blocks together and see if you could put together a wall hanging together. If not, give the kids construction paper, scissors and a glue stick. They can cut out hearts in different colors, glue them together and make their own window and door decorations. Grab our easy-to-follow directions on how to make them HERE.

5. Chocolate Heart Shaped Lollipops – You can purchase from Amazon or your local craft store meltable chocolate disks, a heart-shaped lollipop mold, lollipop sticks and cellophane treat bags. Let the kids melt the chocolate in the microwave and pour it into the lollipop molds. These are great little handmade treats to hand out to their classroom friends.

6. Decorate Cookies – Cut-out heart shaped cookies, bake them and let the children decorate them with colorful sprinkles, icing, frosting, and sugars. Don’t have time to make them from scratch? Purchase refrigerated sugar cookie dough at the grocery store and use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut out the shapes before baking.

Fun Activities

1. Dress the Part – Kids have to wear red, pink and/or light purple clothing on Valentine’s Day. Get dressed up for your romantic family dinner.

2. Scavenger Hunt – If you’re giving gifts to your kids set up a fun scavenger hunt through the house. Write out clues and have the kids go “hunting” for their prize.

3. Write Letters & Cards – Share the Love! Kids can write letters or send little Valentine’s Day cards to our troops overseas or to seniors who are living in area nursing homes. If your local hospital allows it…let them make cards for other children who are currently hospitalized.

A lot of great ideals here but the one I really like is Decoupage Glass Vase

I have a 3 yr great niece who loves to do crafts so this would be perfect when she comes to spend the day with me

  4. Lots of fun activities. Homemade cards are the best.

There is nothing like a homemade card no matter what age you are. I really like the decoupage vase. I should make one with my grandson and put the artificial roses he gave me for Christmas in it!

The cookies are so pretty and I know they will be fun to make. I want to do those and some heart banners. Thank you for the idea.
