How to Make Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Here in the northeast we get fresh local strawberries during the months of May and June. Every year I like to set aside some of our biggest strawberries and dip them into melted chocolates. While you can buy chocolate covered strawberries out in the retail marketplace, its really easy to do them yourself at-home and save a lot of money in the process!

Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Dark Chocolate Chips
White Chocolate Chips
Microwave-Safe Glass Bowls
Large Fresh Strawberries
Tongs
Silicone Spatula or Spoon
Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mat

Wash the strawberries, leaving the tops on and set aside. Cover a baking sheet with a non-stick, reusable, silicone baking mat. I absolutely love those mats for when I’m making homemade candies at home.

Place chocolate chips into three different microwave-safe glass bowls. You will place each bowl into the microwave one at a time. Microwave on 50% power at 20 second intervals, stirring at each interval until the chocolate has melted and is smooth. Remove from microwave.

Using tongs dip the strawberry into the melted chocolate. You can dip the entire berry or just half of the berry…whatever you prefer. If you want to do half & half…dip one side, let cool and then dip the other side. I use tongs for dipping, but you could certainly stick them with a skewer or small fork. Let all excess chocolate drain back down into the bowl. Lay them onto the non-stick, silicone baking sheet so that the chocolate firms up.

After all of your strawberries are covered you can decorate them by drizzling melted chocolate over-the-top. Place them back onto the baking sheet to allow the chocolate to firm. You can speed up that process by placing the baking sheet into the refrigerator for several minutes.

Once you’re done…store them in an airtight container in your refrigerator. I recommend letting them sit for 5 minutes at room temperature before serving. Delicious!!!

These sound yummy! A local bakery sells them during Valentines Day but they are so expensive. These would be so much more affordable.

I don’t splurge at the store on these goodies. But they do sound easy to make. I have to give it a try.

  9. I love to buy these for family and friends but they are super expensive where I live. I had no idea that I could make them myself I mean I thought that they would be a little to advanced for me to make but this sounds like something I could handle. Thank you for sharing this post I am going to give it a try this spring when the local strawberries hit the local farmer’s market.
