A few weeks ago one of our readers sent me an email thanking me for all of the fun painted seashell designs that are featured on the blog. This particular reader told me about her grandchildren and how they’ve been working on the kid’s craft projects that I’ve shared.
She also had a request. Her grandson adores frogs and she wanted to know if we could come up with an easy-to-do design for her grandson to do. Well Mrs. X, We got one for you today!
If you enjoy painting on seashells or crafting with seashells…you’ll find over 70+ seashell craft projects right here on the Two Classy Chics blog! We will be sharing more seashell craft projects in the future too!
For this particular design you’ll want to go to your favorite search engine and type in “Frog Face Template” and several images will come up. We did an image search, found one that we liked and then resized it to fit on the front of our seashell. The image links are always changing, otherwise I would link to the image that we used. Print out your template and then use scissor to cut it out.
We like to base coat our large clam shells with 2 coats of acrylic craft paint. For this one, we used 2 coats of silver metallic acrylic craft paint. Once it was dry trace the outline from your template onto the seashell using a pencil. You’ll want to paint the background color first which is GREEN for the frog’s face. Again, we used 2 coats of paint. Let it dry. You’ll then use white paint to make the eyes and mouth. Let dry.
Since we had 7 and 9 year old children making them we opted to let them use Sharpie Markers to finish up the facial features. They used black and red (tongue). After the facial features are done have the child trace around the head using the black Sharpie Marker to get it to “pop” against the silver metallic background. The kids used medium-tip markers. Let everything dry.
If you plan on displaying them outdoors you’ll want to seal the painted surface with 2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer in a glossy finish. This step will need to be done outdoors and by an adult. It will take approximately 1 hour (on a hot sunny day) or up to 6 hours (cold weather day) for the sealer to dry. That’s it you’re done!

You can use this same method for any animal that your child wants to paint. There are hundreds of different templates online that are FREE for you to print. Just find the ones you like, re-size them to fit onto your seashell or smooth river walk, print them out and you’re ready to roll. The most important thing is to let the kids have fun!
I think that my grandchildren would love to try this craft. It should be fun to do with them.
I love cute art projects! My cousin would love this 😀
Love the frog on the seashell. If my daughter was able to pill the animal I’m guessing she would do a cheetah or a giraffe.
