The Art Lover’s Guide to Paris – A Must-Have for Visitors

The Art Lover’s Guide to ParisIn my dreams, I travel to Paris, where I soak in all the glorious culture the City of Light has to offer, especially its rich art scene. If I were going to Paris in real life, I’d be sure to bring along The Art Lover’s Guide to Paris, an indispensable guidebook by Ruby Boukabou (White Owl, July 2019). If you are lucky enough to visit Paris, you’ll want to pack this book along with your passport.

The Art Lover’s Guide to Paris

Before you even get on the plane, reading through this comprehensive guidebook will prepare you for the art experience you’re about to enjoy. The first chapter, called “Why Paris? A Splash of Art History,” is a fascinating overview of the city and its creative inhabitants from the time of Charlemagne to today, including famous patrons of the art and such artistic luminaries as Leonardo da Vinci, Henri Matisse, and Marc Chagall.

Of course, The Art Lover’s Guide to Paris will introduce you to the top museums and institutions, must-sees like the Louvre (which Boukabou calls “the museum of museums”), the Grand Palais, and the Musée Picasso, but you’ll also learn of many more you’ll want to visit, too. Boukabou says “The city boasts over a hundred museums that, through carefully curated exhibitions and strong permanent collections, can transport you from the Stone Age to the Renaissance to contemporary Paris.”

The Art Lover’s Guide to Paris

Beyond the museums, Boukabou will guide you through many more discoveries in Paris’s vibrant art scene, such as street art, galleries, cafés, and other locations, both the familiar and the less well-known. You’ll learn about the city’s public art installations and architecture, as well as art auctions, with a whole chapter with tips on buying art. There are even chapters on Greater Paris and Arty Day Trips to fill your travel itinerary with art and artistic locales.

Measuring in at 5.5 inches by 7.5 inches, the book is small enough to be easily packable, so you can tuck it in your carry-on bag when you fly to Paris. Then once you arrive there, you can keep it in your purse or pocket as you tour The City of Light. If you are lucky enough to be planning a trip to Paris, do consider The Art Lover’s Guide to Paris to help you make the most of your time there. And keep an eye out for an upcoming review we’ll be posting soon of another Parisian guide (hint—it has to do with food)!

I like that it is a small size that will fit in your pocket. I along with so many others dream of visiting the Louvre. I think this is book I need to pick up. NOT that I am heading to Paris but I can dream.
