Old-Fashion Peanut Butter Popcorn Balls

December 8, 2019 by Jenelle

Old-Fashion Peanut Butter Popcorn BallsWhen I was a little girl I used to watch my Gram and Mom make homemade popcorn balls every year during the holiday season. It would take them hours but their effort was always appreciated by us kids. They would wrap them up in colorful plastic wrap and tuck them inside our Christmas stockings and hand them out at our holiday meal to whoever wanted them. Memories. Precious indeed.

You can easily make your own popcorn balls at home with just a few basic ingredients. You can do classic balls or add your own favorite mix-ins like peanut butter, almond butter, M&M candies, chocolate chips, cereal pieces, sunflower seeds, dried chopped fruits, etc. Today’s recipe is courtesy of Popcorn.org and will make 14 to 18 popcorn balls.

Peanut Butter Popcorn Balls Recipe

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
3 tablespoons peanut butter
8 cups popped popcorn
1 cup candy-coated peanut candy

Line a baking sheet or work surface with waxed paper; set aside.

Stir granulated sugar, corn syrup, butter and peanut butter together in a large saucepan.
Bring to a full boil over medium heat. Stir in popcorn until well coated. Remove pan from heat and stir candy pieces gently into mixture. Allow mixture to cool just enough to allow handling.

Using an ice cream scoop or buttered hands, shape mixture into 2-inch balls and place on waxed paper to cool. Wrap each ball in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container.

There is just something classic about popcorn balls! They are delicious and loved by everyone. I like the modern twist in the recipe above with adding M&Ms and dried fruit.
