DIY 2 1/2 Foot Wood Christmas Tree with Lights

DIY 2 1/2 Foot Wood Christmas Tree with Twinkle LightsLooking for a fun and easy Christmas craft project to do this holiday season? If so, we’ve got an easy one for you today. While it will take you a few days to complete it, it is indeed easy to make!

At our local craft supply store we found these unfinished wood pine trees that happened to be on clearance. They had them in different sizes 2 foot, 2 1/2 foot, 3 foot and 3 1/2 foot. We purchased 3 of them in different heights to use as a display on our front porch.

While at the craft store you’ll need to pick up green acrylic craft paint (we used 3 bottles, one on each tree), 1 bottle of white acrylic craft paint, 1 jar of faux snow textured paint, 2-3 paint brushes, 1 can of clear acrylic spray sealer, 3 miniature indoor/outdoor holiday light sets. You can select multi-color or solid white lights.

I painted both sides of each tree with 2 coats of green acrylic craft paint. I painted the base of each tree with 2 coats of white acrylic craft paint and left everything dry overnight.

The following day I added globs of the white textured faux snow paint onto each of the branches of the tree. I went “light” with it on the branches, but you could certainly add a lot more. I added addition faux snow textured paint to each of the tree’s base to give the appearance that its sitting in freshly fallen snow. Let dry for at least 4 hours.

Take them outside and spray all sides with 2 coats of the clear acrylic spray sealer, allowing for 2 hours of drying time between coats. Let dry until they are no longer tacky.

Our trees came with pre-drilled light insertion holes. My husband strung the lights along the backside of each tree. You’ll want to start at the top and work your way down…ending with the electrical plug or battery pack at the bottom. You new trees are ready to be displayed! I told you…easy project!

I made three of them in varying heights and like to display all three of them together in one corner of my front porch with a lighted, animated Santa nestled among them. I will try to get you a picture of that!

This is a fun craft , but I always prefer a real tree! However, this would be very durable.
