Georgia Travel Guide: Tbilisi
Your first stop should be the capital, Tbilisi. This colorful, ancient city is full of history. Towering communist buildings stand shoulder-to-shoulder with incredible churches.

This church was built around 530 AD and features breathtaking artworks.
* The cable car to Narikala Fortress
Soaring high into the sky, these cable cars offer panoramic views across all of Tbilisi.
The Georgian Countryside
We recommend partaking in some Georgia country tourism while you’re in the country. The Georgian countryside is stunning, featuring snow-capped mountains, rolling green valleys, and picturesque vineyards.
A trip to Mtskheta is essential. This tiny city is one of the oldest in the country, nestling at the confluence of the River Mtkvari and Aragvi. The holy city is home to numerous monasteries and is an important part of Georgian history.
If you’re interested in hiking or mountaineering, then Stepantsminda is the place for you. This town is located at the foot of Mount Kazbek and offers stunning opportunities for the active traveler.
The David Gareja monastery is an easy day trip from Tbilisi and should definitely be part of your Georgia travels. Cut into the slopes of Mount Gareja, near the Azerbaijani border. It’s like nowhere else on Earth. If you’re a fan of frescoes, you can see some of the oldest in the country at this complex.
If you visit in the winter, you should hit the slopes. The resort of Gudauri features incredible snow sports facilities, rivaling those found in the Alps.
What to Eat and Drink
A Georgian travel guide wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the country’s cuisine. Georgian food is mind-blowingly delicious. If you like meats, nuts, and cheese, you’ll be in heaven.
We particularly recommend trying Khachapuri. This dish is essentially a bread boat filled with melted cheese and butter and topped with eggs.
Trying Georgian wine is essential. Although not as famous as French wine, Georgian wine is some of the best in the world. You can expect to find it everywhere.
Even exceptional wine is cheap too, costing the equivalent of a few dollars.
