The Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located in Hanger One at the Cape May County Airport in New Jersey. The museum is open year-round and offers free parking for visitors. It’s handicap accessible and fun for the entire family.
At the museum you’ll see fighter jets, air planes, coast guard boats, jeeps, helicopters, replica US space shuttles, etc. What’s really cool is that you can climb into some of them and try your hand at the controls. This is something that kids love to do, including my own grandchildren every time we visit.
You will want to dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. You’ll be doing a lot of walking in there and during the HOT summertime months it can get hot inside the hangar, even though they have air conditioning and fans running. Food and beverages are NOT permitted inside, but you can purchase beverages, snacks and popsicles from the gift shop after your done.
It’s a self-guided tour so you can really take your time looking at all of the exhibits and items on display. I recommend setting aside 2 hours in your schedule, so that you can experience everything that they have to offer. My family enjoys climbing up the steps in the “replica” control tower and talking to the visitors below.
A lot of people seem to gravitate to the amateur flight simulator and you can sit down and try your hand at that. The little ones who may be traveling with you will enjoy climbing in and out of the fighter jets, airplanes, boats, jeeps, etc. Please keep an eye on your children as they can get hurt if you’re not watching them. This is NOT a hands-on children’s type of museum.
After we were done with our visit we headed into their gift shop which sells collectibles, clothing, toys for the kids, books, posters, replica pins & patches, home goods, snacks, beverages, and other items that you may want to purchase. Their prices are fairly decent for a tourist attraction.
This was our second time visiting the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum in Cape May, New Jersey and we all had a great time. If you’re tired of being on the beach or need something to do during a rain day…head on over to the museum for some fun!
I think that any kid who likes different kinds of planes would love to visit this museum. It also is a great rainy day activity.
We took our grandkids to the Flight Museum this summer and they had a blast. So much to see and learn.
