Reading is a big part of my children’s lives and both of them enjoy a good book. My 10 1/2 year old daughter is a great reader and my 4 year old son is just learning to read. Every week each of my children have to spend a minimum of 2 hours reading a book (or in my son’s case, being read a book).

Title: How Winston Delivered Christmas
Author: Alex T. Smith
Publisher: Silver Dolphin Books
ISBN: 978-1684129836
Format: Hardcover with 176 pages
Synopsis: When a mouse named Winston finds a lost letter addressed to Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, he sets off an unforgettable journey to personally deliver the letter to Santa! How Winston Delivered Christmas is a heart-warming story, organized in twenty-four and a half chapters, to share during the countdown to Christmas. Starting on December 1st, children can read a chapter a day, and each chapter is followed with a fun and festive holiday activity to complete. This illustrated advent story tells of the adventures of an adorable mouse and how a good deed can lead to a very happy ending, in a beautiful hardcover that can be treasured year after year.
My Thoughts: Every year I get my children a new book related to the Christmas. It’s a great way to get the kids excited for the upcoming holiday. I sat down and read this book cover-to-cover and love it. The story is well-written and Winston is way too cute.
The story is broken down into chapters that you’ll read with your child every day starting on December 1st. Each chapter is an easy read, so great for the older children or for a parent to read to a younger child. At the end of the chapter you’ll find an activity that you can do with your child to go along with the story and the Christmas holiday season.
Each activity comes with a list of the items you’ll need and step-by-step instructions on how to complete it. I really like that these activities are simple and easy-to-make. Both of my children enjoy arts & crafts and they’re going to love working on these activities and projects with me. If you look at my photographs, you can see 3 of the activities included in the book. Fun!
I haven’t shown the book yet to my children as its going to be our Christmas book for this upcoming holiday. We will start it on December 1st and every day leading up to Christmas we’ll read a chapter and work on the activity. I’ll be picking up the activity supplies ahead of time and stashing them away.
How Winston Delivered Christmas by author Alex T. Smith is a really special holiday book. You need to pick it up now, so that you can have everything on hand before December 1st. I love this idea and I think its even better than a traditional advent calendar. A great way for families to bond together and a great way for children to get excited for the upcoming Christmas holiday.
