Hand-Painted Frankenstein River Rocks for Halloween

Hand-Painted Frankenstein River Rocks for HalloweenLast week we shared a fun Halloween craft project with you and today we’re back with a new addition to the collection. You can visit our previous Halloween painted river rocks post for instructions on how to paint a spooky ghost, a jack ‘o lantern, and a piece of yummy candy corn. They’re a lot of fun to display during this time of the year.

To add to the collection we’re featuring our adorable hand-painted Frankenstein design. My 10 1/2 year old granddaughter had a lot of fun painting them and I think you will too. You can use acrylic craft paints or paint markers to make them.

Acrylic Craft Paints or Paint Pen Markers
Smooth River Rocks
Paint Brush, Paper Towels, Water Dish
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish

We used a combination of acrylic craft paint and paint pen markers to make them. Paint the rock with 2 coats of green acrylic craft paint. Let it dry for 20-25 minutes. Flip it over and paint the other side with 2 coats of paint. Let it dry.

Use a white paint pen marker to make 2 small oval shapes to serve as eyes. Let dry. Use the black marker pen to draw on zig-zag hair, 2 facial scars, his nose and mouth. Add a small black dot to each eye. Let dry for 30 minutes. Flip over and finish his “hairstyle” on the back. Let dry for 30 minutes.

Take your painted rocks outside and lay them down onto an old plastic placemat, drop cloth, or similar type of material. Lightly spray each side with 1-2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. We used one with a “glossy finish” but you could certainly use a “matte finish” if you prefer. Leave them dry for an hour.

Spraying your painted rocks with the clear acrylic spray sealer will protect the painted finish from cracking, chipping, or fading of the colors. It also allows you to display them inside or outside of your home.  If desired, you can sign your name & date them on the back.
