If you’ve been reading this blog for the past 10 years you’ll already know that I consider myself to be a frugal shopper. I’m always looking for the best deals and rarely pay full price for anything that I buy. I keep my regular expenses down so that I can afford the other things that I want…like a summer vacation home and extensive travel.

Back in September I was invited to daughter #2’s baby shower and needed to pick up a few baby shower gifts. I set a budget for myself to not spend more than $30.00, including the gift bag and card. Yes…a task that I was willing to meet.
We have store nearby called Gabe’s and its a discount department store that sells name brand and designer brands at a steep discount. It kind of reminds me of a TJ Maxx or Marshall’s type of store. When you go in there its really hit or miss on what you can find.
As soon as I entered the store I grabbed a shopping cart and heading to the newborn baby boy section of the store. Naturally, I went right to all of the clearance racks. Even though Gabe’s everyday prices are heavily discounted, their clearance prices are even better.
During my shopping trip I picked up the following items:
1 Baby Outfit with Pants, Shirt and Hat
1 Baby Outfit with Pants, Shirt and Booties
1 Giraffe Design Hooded Bath Towel
1 Pair of Spider Man Baby Shoes
1 Wooden Photo Frame that says Children
If I would of paid the normal retail price for those 5 items I would of paid $97.94. All of the items were brand names and first quality merchandise. Nothing was defective. I ended up paying just under $25.00 for all 5 of the items that I purchased.
My next stop was to the Dollar Tree store where I picked up a large Baby Shower Gift Bag $1.00, a pack of tissue paper $1.00 and a Baby Shower Greeting Card for $1.00. With tax this purchase cost me $3.18.
As you can see…in total I spent $28.18 and I think I got some really nice things for the new parents. Everything fit into the gift bag and my present looked beautiful sitting on the gift table.
There is nothing wrong with being a frugal shopper. Matter of fact, it’s SMART. I cut down my every day costs as much as possible, so that I can afford to do the other things that I want to do in life.
These are great finds. I wish I had a store like Gabe’s near me. I love to find bargains.
I am with you. I always look for bargains. If it is a really good deal… it comes home and goes into the “Next Christmas” box. I have really nice things for not as much as they think I spend.
This is an adorable baby shower gift. I wish we had a Gabe’s store here but I love getting wrapping supplies at the Dollar store and cards.
Great finds, you are in inspiration
