3 Seasonal Maintenance Chores for the Fall

October 6, 2019 by Sam H.

3 Seasonal Maintenance Chores for the FallHeading into the fall means a changing of leaves, all things pumpkin and fall maintenance on your home. There are three main areas you should focus on as the weather turns colder, your heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, your fire safety systems and your protection from the hazards of cold weather.

HVAC Safety

Having a clean and save heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is vital for the health and safety of your building and everyone inside of it. This system filters out dust and allergens in the air that you breathe and can help keep your home or business a comfortable temperature all year long. One of the best ways to ensure the safety of your HVAC system is to schedule an inspection with a Brandon HVAC repair company. These licensed professionals can check your system for leaks as well as clean out the ducts and help you get ready for the winter months.

Fire Safety

The right fire safety system can help keep your home and family happy and healthy during the winter months. Seasonal maintenance on these systems includes checking the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well as pushing the test buttons on them to ensure that they work are can be clearly heard. It is a good idea to have more complex systems such as suppression sprinklers and fire extinguishers inspected professionally before you tuck in for the winter months. You will also want to start removing leaves and other debris from your roof and rain gutters so they do not catch embers from nearby fire pits or cause a build up of water and ice from winter storms.

Cold Safety

There are many systems in your home which will need to be protected from the cold as well as those which help protect you from the cold. Some of these seasonal maintenance tasks include draining any water systems which will not be in use during the winter months to avoid frozen pipes. You will also want to inspect your windows for leaks and worn seals and put up any storm windows you need to. Cold safety can also mean getting your chimney cleaned and inspected and hiring an HVAC professional for any furnace repairs or upgrades you might need.

Seasonal maintenance on your home is a good habit to get into because it can help you be better prepared for the next season’s challenges. Spring and summer pruning can help you remove fewer leaves from your yard during the fall and proper inspection of your HVAC system can help you stay warmer for less energy cost during the winter.

I have had my unit checked. I do not want to have any problems during the cold months.
