Back in the good old days girls my age had to learn to crochet at a very early age. I was around the age of 10-11 when I picked up a crochet hook for the first time. My mother taught all of us girls how to crochet all of our own hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, sweaters and afghans. That’s how it was done in the 1950’s thru the 1970’s before machine-made items became popular.

Fast forward to 60 years later and I know crochet for fun. I like to sit down and make hats, scarves, afghans and toys for my grandchildren. I crochet hats and scarves for the local senior center and give those away. Its a great way to keep my mind & hands busy, plus a great way to relax after a long day.
My Little Crocheted Christmas – Festive Projects to Make the Season Bright book by Doerthe Eisterlehner includes patterns to crochet Christmas tree ornaments, decorations, toys, and charms. The projects are suitable for crocheting at every level of experience and there is a how-to section that explains the basic techniques.
Here’s an example of the projects that you’ll find:
Candy Wreath
Gingerbread Hearts
Cookie Jar Lid
Donut Advent Wreath
Cookie Themed Garland
Nativity & Stable Characters
Holiday Bells
Ornament Balls
Sleepy Mice
Snowman Candle Cozy
Star Shaped Light Covers
Mice Figures (Carolers)
Wrist Warmers
Snowman & Santa Figures
+++ More!
The author does a really nice job with this book. Each design/project includes a full-color photograph, easy-to-follow instructions and I really appreciate that she includes a photograph on how she used the finished item. For many of the designs you can use them in the way she shows you or come up with your own creative decorating uses. A lot of the projects are holiday themed, but you could certainly use many of them throughout the year.
I’m really looking forward to sitting down next month and whipping up several of the projects featured in the book. From Fall through early Spring, I enjoy sitting down and crocheting. It’s a great way to pass the time when stuck indoors from the cold winter weather.
