Kid’s Craft Project: Painted Piggy Seashells Yard Art

I bet you all thought I would run out of seashell craft projects by now. Right? Wrong! I’ve got boxes, upon boxes full of beautiful shells that I’ve collected (and continue to collect) from all of our trips down to the beach.

While many of the designs that I feature are painted onto large clam shells, you could certainly paint them onto smooth river rocks too. I completely understand that some readers don’t have access to a beach. Furthermore, you can buy seashells online or at your local craft supply store.

Kid’s Craft Project: Painted Piggy Seashells Yard Art

Large Clam Shell Seashell – 5″ wide
2 Small Flat Slipper Shells
Acrylic Craft Paint: Pink, Medium Pink, Black, White
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish
E6000 Adhesive Glue

Note: If you you’re not fabulous at detailed painting you can opt to use a black paint pen or black Sharpie Marker to do all of your outlining details.

Base coat the large clam shell with 2 coats of light pink acrylic craft paint. Base coat both sides of the flat slipper seashell with 2 coats of light pink acrylic craft paint. Set aside.

Use medium pink paint to paint on an oblong oval shape to serve as the pig’s snout. Use that same pink paint to make the inner ear on each slipper shell. Use black paint to make 2 ovals to serve as the eyes. Let dry.

Once the paint is no longer tacky you’ll want to add the final details. Outline the snout, nostrils and mouth in black. Use white paint to dot on the inner eyes. Let dry. Use E6000 adhesive glue to attach the slipper shells to the top of the pig’s head to serve as his ears. Let dry for 3-4 hours or until the adhesive has bonded.

Take your finished seashells outside and spray them with 2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. Let dry for 2-3 hours. That’s it, you’re done! You can now display your new painted piggy seashells inside or outside of your home. They add some nice color into your garden areas and make great yard art pieces!

I like this. You know these would sell like hotcakes here in the Midwest. I could see the 4h’s doing these and making all kinds of different things!

    • Right now we’re painting 15 of them for a gal who lives near by who is having a Peppa Pig birthday party for her son later next month. She’s using them as party favors for the kids.
