My family loves the Jersey Shore and we go down a few times every year to relax on the beach. We love visiting the North Wildwood area…but when we’re down we do explore Ocean City, Stone Harbor, Avalon and Cape May too. Each local has something different and unique to offer.
If we had to pick a favorite it would definitely be North Wildwood. No, not Wildwood or Wildwood Crest, but North Wildwood which sits on the northern tip of the island. Its less crowded than traditional Wildwood and has the prettiest beaches on the entire island. This is also where you’ll find the historic Hereford Inlet Lighthouse.
North Wildwood has a different vibe than Wildwood. It has a seawall that you walk instead of the boardwalk. There are a few souvenir stores, a lot of great restaurants and the hotels in the area offer top-notch service. All of their beaches are FREE, no beach tags required and you can find paid and free parking nearby.
We stay 1 block from the beach so its a short walk over to the sand. My grandchildren love to play in the surf, collect seashells and build sandcastles when we’re there. If you’re into kite flying…the northern tip of the island is a great place to do that. Its also the best place to go shelling!!! Yes, the best place to find some treasures for your seashell collection.
One tradition that we do every time we’re at the beach is to take a photograph of our feet in the sand! I like to document our “sandy feet” photos in my scrapbook layouts which is always fun! In the photo above you’ll see my feet and my mom’s. Love my blue toes? Ha! So much fun!!!
Mom and I are BIG beach walkers and if the weather is nice we’ll go out and walk the beach twice a day…usually during low tides so that we can look for seashells for my ever-growing collection. I love finding beautiful sand dollars, starfish, whelk shells, channel whelks, slipper shells, clam shells, oyster shells, scallops, etc.
We’re really big into marine life conservation, so every year we volunteer our time to help clean up the beaches and we participate in horseshoe crab conservation. Often times during big storms or during the breeding season horseshoe crabs get washed up onto the beach and can’t get flipped-over or back into the water…then they die. We walk the beach looking for the ones that need help and return then back to the water.
We enjoy visiting the various festivals that go on throughout the summer season down at the shore. They have lighthouse festivals, music festivals, movies-on-the-beach, fireworks every Friday (July and August), seafood fests, restaurant weeks, etc. Oh my gosh, there is something always going on!!!
North Wildwood in New Jersey is a very special place. We’ve been building family memories there for decades. We love the area and are hoping that when hubby retires in the next 5-6 years that we can spend our entire summers there at the condo. If you’ve never visited North Wildwood….I highly recommend that you add it to your travel bucket list.
You all look so relaxed and happy in the photos. If I can I would love to visit the beach and other places in Wildwood.
If I lived closer I would be sure to visit and spend some time there. One of our favorite beach spots to is Cannon Beach in Oregon where you can walk to Haystack Rock when the tide is out.
That does look like a fun way to spend a day. I’d definitely enjoy it.
This looks like such a lovely place and you all look like you are having the best time. Thank you for sharing these great pictures sure reminds me that it has been way too long since I have been to the beach. I love finding beaches like this one that are clean, safe and free.
