If you don’t have access to large clam seashells, you can make these projects using smooth river rocks too! You can make several of them over the course of 2 afternoons and they won’t cost you a lot of money. A great project for the kids too!

We love seeing these Patriotic Seashells displayed as garden yard art in your flower beds, gardening areas, on your front porch, back deck or in planters around your swimming pool. Craft Project: July 4th Patriotic Seashells Yard Art

Large Clam Shells Seashells
Acrylic Craft Paint: Red, Navy Blue and White
Paint Pen with Medium Tip in White
Paint Brush, Water Dish, Paper Towels
Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer, Glossy Finish

You will want to wash your seashells and let them thoroughly dry. We recommend letting them dry out in the sunshine overnight.

Base coat your seashells with 2 coats of acrylic craft paint in your desired colors. For seashell #1 we used Metallic Navy Blue, for seashell #2 we used Dark Red and for seashell #3 we painted it in solid white. Let dry for 60-75 minutes or until paint is no longer tacky.

Use the Paint Pen (in white) to write on the words JULY 4th onto the blue seashell, the U.S.A. onto the red seashell. Set aside to dry. Use red acrylic craft paint to paint on the stripes for your U.S.A. flag shell. Let dry.

Dip the end of your paint brush into white acrylic craft paint. Dot on your white polka dots around the perimeter of your blue and red shells. Dip the end of the paint brush into red acrylic craft paint and dot on your polka dots on the blue shell. Dip the end of the paint brush into blue acrylic craft paint and dot on your polka dots on the U.S.A shell. Set aside to dry.

Using the blue acrylic craft paint add the side of the square to your U.S.A. flag shell. Let dry. Once dry use the white paint pen to draw on your white stars. Let dry.

Once all of your seashells are dry take them outside. Spray each seashell with 1-2 coats of clear acrylic spray sealer. Let dry. Don’t skip this step!!! Spraying them with the sealer will protect the painted finish from chipping, fading, cracking and crazing. Plus, you can now display your beautifully painted seashells outside as yard art!
