Movie Synopsis: Set in 1946, this engrossing drama follows Rachael Morgan (Keira Knightley), a British woman whose colonel husband (Jason Clarke) is charged with rebuilding war-ravaged Hamburg. When she joins him there during the bitter winter months, she learns they will be sharing their home with a German widower (Alexander Skarsgård) and his troubled daughter. Before long, the unusual arrangement intensifies political divides and stirs deep personal wounds. In this increasingly charged environment, enmity and grief give way to unexpected passion and betrayal.

We received a complimentary DVD and sat down to watch it last weekend. My wife enjoys dramas like this one, so it was perfect for our date night-in. The movie stars Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgard, and Jason Clarke. It’s rated R, so we don’t recommend viewing it with little one’s around.  The DVD comes with special features like deleted scenes, audio commentary by director James Kent, First Look, Photo Gallery, etc.

It’s a period movie that is set in 1946, Hamburg, Germany. It’s drama-filled, well-written with many unexpected twists and turns. I’ve never seen another movie quite like this one which is refreshing. There is romance, drama, action, and betrayal…a little bit of everything to keep the story moving and entertaining. As per this blog’s policy, we never tell you how the movie ends but I will tell you that it doesn’t end the way you may expect.

On our movie rating scale I’m giving this flick 7 stars out of 10 stars. You can pre-order/order the DVD for a great price from Amazon.
