Chocolate Banana Split Fudgesicles Recipe
2 bananas
2 cups half and half
1 1/3 cup AMERICAN HERITAGE® Finely Grated Dark Chocolate
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Pinch of coarse salt
2 tablespoons crushed pineapple in juice, drained
4 large strawberries, finely diced
1/2 cup American Heritage Finely Grated Dark Chocolate, melted
3/4 cup salted peanuts, roughly chopped
Puree 1 banana until very smooth. Thinly slice remaining banana; set aside. In a heatproof bowl, combine half and half, AMERICAN HERITAGE® Finely Grated Dark Chocolate, sugar and salt and set over a pan of gently simmering water, stirring frequently until chocolate melts, about 5 minutes.
Add cornstarch, banana puree, and pineapple. Stir until mixture thickens, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let mixture cool slightly before stirring in strawberries.
Pour mixture into 10 to 12 popsicle molds, filling each 1-inch below the top. Use a popsicle stick to press banana slices into each mold cavity. Place lid on mold and insert popsicle sticks according to manufacturer’s directions. Freeze at least 6 hours or overnight.
Briefly dip molds in a bowl of hot water to loosen. Remove popsicles and transfer to a baking sheet lined with waxed paper. Drizzle with melted AMERICAN HERITAGE® Finely Grated Dark Chocolate and sprinkle with chopped peanuts. Store in freezer until ready to serve for up to 1 month.
My Thoughts: During the summer my granddaughter spends a lot of time at our home and I’m always looking for educational activities to do with her. She has taken a big interest in cooking, so this recipe is a GREAT way to spend some time with the kids and have fun while doing it. Let’s face it, we all enjoy a good fudgesicle!
We followed their recipe and whipped up our very own batch of fudgesicles, minus the chopped peanuts and oh my gosh…they were so good!!! You can pick up an inexpensive set of popsicle molds from any department store or from Amazon to start your journey into homemade popsicle making.
Here are some additional ways we’ve been using AMERICAN HERITAGE® CHOCOLATE the past few weeks:
* Dip Fresh Fruits into Melted Chocolate (strawberries, pineapples, chocolate wedges, blueberries, etc.)
* Cookies: You can add the grated chocolate into your favorite recipe or take a few of the AMERICAN HERITAGE® CHOCOLATE Dark Chocolate Bars and break them into pieces. Toss the pieces into your favorite cookie recipe. We tossed them into banana cookie batter and oh my gosh…heavenly!
* Muffins: Tired of the same old, same old muffin recipe? Toss AMERICAN HERITAGE® CHOCOLATE Grated Chocolate or broken pieces of an AMERICAN HERITAGE® CHOCOLATE Dark Chocolate Bar into your favorite muffin batter. We tossed them into our banana muffin batter. The kids ate them right up!
* Hot and Cold Beverages: You can use the AMERICAN HERITAGE® CHOCOLATE Milk Chocolate Gourmet Hot Cocoa mix to make hot cocoa, chilled cocoa, to add chocolate flavor to smoothies and milkshakes, etc. We like to use it to make chocolate milkshakes! Just add a teaspoon or two into the blender with your favorite vanilla ice cream. Blend. Place blender container into freezer for 10 minutes. Remove and serve immediately with or without whipped cream & a cherry on the top.
* Homemade Ice Cream: We like to make our own homemade ice cream and have been using the AMERICAN HERITAGE® CHOCOLATE Milk Chocolate Gourmet Hot Cocoa Mix in our favorite chocolate ice cream recipe. You will have to play around with how much chocolate mix to use…so far, I’ve been using a 1/3 cup in our ice cream machine recipe and it turns out delicious! Just the right amount of chocolate flavor! YUMMY!
