Things to Do on Vacation in Maricopa

May 6, 2019 by Sam H.

Things to Do on Vacation in Maricopa ArizonaIf you’re visiting the Phoenix, Arizona area, consider spending some time in Maricopa. The city of Maricopa is outside of downtown Phoenix so you will encounter less traffic and less chaos. Despite being outside of the bigger city, it still has a lot of great features and amenities to offer its visitors. Here are four things visitors can do in Maricopa to stay busy and have a great time.

Enjoy the Dinner Scene

Maricopa offers some great local cuisine. Just as in Phoenix, you can find everything you’re looking for, it’s just much less crowded. There are great sushi bars, pizza joints and Mexican restaurants. If you want fine dining without the hustle and bustle of the city, visit some of the Maricopa restaurants.

Check out Some Unique Cars

If you want to do something unusual, there’s a great museum you can visit that offers displays you can’t really find anywhere else. Take a tour of the Dwarf Car Museum. The owner and proprietor of the museum started building dwarf cars (miniature versions of vehicles that were fully functioning) in 1965. His first car, a Chevy two-door, was built from pieces salvaged from nine refrigerators. These miniature vehicles are interesting and make for a great stop in your Maricopa visit.

Golf Course in Arizona

Play a Round of Golf

If you’re in the Phoenix area, there’s a good chance that golfing is on your to-do list. Maricopa offers some great golf courses that are sure to please every avid golf fan. Since Maricopa has sunny weather nearly year-round, you can look forward to clear skies and perfect golfing conditions. One of the best courses in Maricopa is AK-Chin Southern Dunes. This course was designed by Fred Couples and Brian Curley and offers a great challenge. It has been recognized by Golf Magazine as being one of the top 100 golf courses you can play.

Go Gliding

For the adventurous, Maricopa offers adventure you can find in few other places. Hang gliding is a great way to get a rush and see the beautiful Sonoran Desert. Sonora Wings in Maricopa offers tandem hang gliding sessions. With their professional staff, you can experience hang gliding at elevations of 2,000 feet, 3,000 feet or even a full mile. For those wanting an adrenaline-pumping adventure, hang gliding is the perfect activity for your Maricopa vacation.

Whatever your tastes, Maricopa has something to offer everyone. The next time you visit, try one of these great activities.

Beautiful place to spend some time. I visited many years ago and this puts it on my radar again. Good place for sunshine and hiking when its not too hot.

I’m not sure I would be adventures enough to go gliding. I would, however, like to try some of the great restaurants!

That looks like a great place to visit. Too bad it is so far away from where I live. Thank you for the review.

I haven’t been to this area in so many years and I sure would like to visit there again. I had no idea about the Dwarf Car Museum that sounds like something the whole family would enjoy thanks for sharing.
