How many of you have ever heard of waymarking? If you’ve never heard of it before, it’s a way to mark & document unique locations here on our planet. They include documenting old historical buildings, historical markers, town clocks, memorial markers, statues, monuments, etc.
Hubby and I do a lot of traveling and seven years ago we started documenting historical markers, monuments, statues and old town clocks over on our travel blog and on Pinterest. A lot of travel folks are involved in it…along with just people who are generally interested in waymarking.
Today I wanted to tell you a little bit about it and show you three photos that we took while on vacation down in Wildwood, New Jersey. All three of these historical town clocks are located on the Wildwoods island. Yes, Wildwood is a barrier island located off the southern New Jersey coast.
In the first photograph you’ll see the North Wildwood Town Clock, in the second photograph you’ll see the Wildwood Crest Town Clock and in the third photograph you’ll see the Wildwood Crest Beachfront Town Clock. We enjoy seeing out old town clocks every time we travel and it’s always fun to learn their history which you can typically find online. Some will have information plaques or historical markers located nearby where you can learn their history too.
When waymarking you want to document the clock’s location, note if any information is located on or nearby, the maker of the clock, etc. I do this by taking several photos of the clock (different angles & sides), the information marker, a wider shot of the area/location and so forth. I drag around a little notebook too! I then document them on our travel blog and our Pinterest board.
If you would like to learn more about waymarking and seeing some of the historical markers and old town clocks that we’ve documented over the years…feel free to visit our Pennsylvania and Beyond Travel Blog to learn more. If you have any questions, please let me know. It’s a really fun hobby that anyone can do!
I too have never heard of waymarking before your post. It sounds like it would be fun and interesting to do too.
Those are so pretty. We have a clock in our square that is just like the top image. I have always loved looking at that clock when we passed it. Another interesting trip…. as usual.
I have never heard about waymarking clocks before I think this is very cool. I love old clocks like this we only have a couple in our area but now I am going to be on the lookout for them Thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures.
I have never heard of waymarking but can see how it would be really fun and would make visiting areas so much more interesting and a way to learn about the town’s history.
Yeah! I taught you about something new!
